Maunsell Family of Rockmount, Dundrum
Robert Maunsell son of Daniel Maunsell married Anne eldest daughter of late Rev John Lloyd, Rector
of New Inn, Tipperary on 27.09.1821 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin.
John Maunsell 2nd son born circa 1824 of Merrion Square a JP and head of the firm of Maunsell and
Darley Solicitors married Catherine Lucinda Lloyd eldest daughter of Thomas Lloyd of Beechmount,
Limerick on 17.11.1851 at Castleisland. Catherine Lucinda died on 03.02.1862 of fever aged 34 years
at Rockmount, Dundrum.
1 Edmund Robert Lloyd Maunsell born circa 1852 died 02.11.1886 aged 34 years and
was buried at Taney.
2 Arthur Horatio Maunsell born 07.07.1854 at 11 Merrion Square South.
3 Captain John Drought Maunsell born 09.05.1856 of 11 Merrion Square South and the
1st Batt of the Durham Light Infantry married Euphemia (Effie) Sullivan Bush daughter
of late Major Robert Bush on 17.02.1885 at Christ Church Clifton.
4 Annie Mary Maunsell born 23.06.1857 at 11 Merrion Square South.
5 Frederic William Maunsell born 26.01.1859 at 11 Merrion Square South.
6 Eyre Lloyd Maunsell born 10.03.1860 at 11 Merrion Square South.
John then married Emily Roche Stephens only daughter of Archibald J Stephens QC LLD Recorder of
Winchester on 16.12.1863 at Kells Church. Emily died 02.03.1866 aged 29 years after a long illness
at Rockmount, Dundrum.
1 Archibald John Edward Maunsell born 08.09.1864 at Rockmount.
John then married Frances (Fanny) Caroline Lloyd youngest daughter of late Edward Lloyd MD of
Limerick on 07.08.1867 at St Stephen’s Church. Frances died on 15.05.1882 at Edenmore, Raheny.
1 Richard Edward Lloyd Maunsell born 26.05.1868 at Edenmore worked for the Great
Southern & Western Railways (GSWR) in Inchicore and then in the Drawing office of
Howrich Works before moving to the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. In 1894 he
moved to India to work for the East India Railway, returning home in 1896 to take on
the role of Locomotive Superintendent with the GSWR and then Works manager.
In 1913 he moved to England as Chief Mechanical Engineer to the South Eastern &
Chatham Railway which would later become part of The Southern Railway. He
retired in 1937. Richard died 7 Mar1944. There is a plaque in his honour at Raheny
station.

John then married Annie Peacock daughter of Rev George Peacocke of Thurles on 04.08.1883 at
Coalbrooke, Ballinagarry, Tipperary.
John died on 15.09.1899 late of Edenmore, Raheny.
