Michael Masterson was a working gardener and married Mary Kane circa 1862.

3 Thomas Masterson born 1 Nov 1868 at Beresfordstown, Kellskeer, Co Meath. He
married Julia Smyth on 1 Nov 1897 at Kells RC Church, Co Meath. Witnesses: Edward
Dunne & Margaret Smyth. Thomas was resident at Dundrum and Julia was resident at
Headfort Cottages Kells. Julia was the daughter of Peter Smyth a ploughman and his
wife Julia Martin. Thomas Masterson was a gardener and worked for Christopher Palles
at Knockrabo for 1896 until his death. He lived in the 5 roomed gatelodge (one of three
cottages on the estate). They had nine children but only 7 survived to 1911. He later
worked as a market gardener. He was co-opted on to the committee of the Royal
Horticultural Society as a practical member in 1915. He had a black and white terrier
from 1905 to 1923. He was a member of the Irish Gardeners Association and Benefit
Society Ltd and won a first prise for his tomatoes in 1933. He was unanimously elected
president of the society in 1934. He also one prises for his pears and apples in 1935.
Thomas, a market gardener died 6 Feb 1947 at Knockrabo Lodge and was buried at
Deansgrange. Julia was gone from Mount Anville Lodge by 1951 and lived with her
daughter Margaret at South Hill Lodge. Julia died 23 Jul 1953 at Sir Patrick Dun’s late
of South Hill lodge, Mount Merrion Avenue and was buried with her husband.
1 Edward Masterson born 20 Aug 1898 at Mount Anville baptised at Dundrum died
at Mount Anville House aged 1 Year and 8 months from Meningitis on 4 May 1900.
2 Thomas Michael Masterson eldest son born 10 Nov 1899 at Mount Anville won a
prize in the local widow box competition in 1910. He married Christina (Tiny)
Cahill on 29 Mar 1951 at St Sylvester’s, Malahide and they had a Papal Blessing.
Christina was the youngest daughter of Andrew and Mary Cahill of Upper Strand,
Malahide. Christina was a member of the Red Cross Society and the manageress
of Malahide Golf Club. Christina wore a navy two-piece, and their reception was
held at the Golf Club, their honeymoon was spent motoring in Southern Ireland.
Thomas’s best man was his brother in law John Ryan.
3 Michael Joseph Masterson born 30 April 1901 at Mount Anville Lodge. Joseph
Patricia Masterson born circa 1902 never married and died 5 Dec 1978 at 105
Mount Merrion Avenue and was buried with parents. Won a prize in the local
widow box competitions in 1910.
4 Julia Mary Masterson born 2 Apr 1903 at Mount Anville.
5 Frances Masterson born 27 Oct 1904 at Mount Anville never married and died
at 7 Convent Road, Blackrock in 2001 and was buried with her parents.
6 Mary Josephine Masterson born 22 Mar 1906 at Mount Anville Lodge died
6 April 1906.
7 Josephine Masterson born 8 Mar 1907 at Mount Anville, a witness at her sister’s
wedding in 1943.
8 John Masterson born 11 Oct 1908 at Mount Anville.
9 Margaret Mary Masterson born 12 Jun 1910 at Mount Anville.
10 Mary Josephine Masterson married John Christopher Ryan at Mount Merrion
Church on 8 Mar 1943. John was a civil servant resident at Main Street Dundrum
and the son of Patrick Ryan, Clerk. Witnesses Josephine Masterson and Michael
Quinn.
4 Mary Anne Masterson born 1 Oct 1871 at Beresfordstown was unmarried and lived with
her parents and 3 children in 1901. She was living at Laurencetown in 1911 with her
two boys.
