Richard Massey son of Richard Massey, a farmer was born circa 1824. He was a baker and
married Margaret Murphy nee Leviston, a widow and daughter of Hugh Leviston of
Castlemacadam at the Parish church of Castlemacadam on 2 Jun 1845. Margaret died
15 May 1867 and was buried at Stillorgan Graveyard with her daughter.
1 Margaretta Massey only daughter born 30 Aug 1846 at Kingstown, baptised at Kilternan, died
14 Aug 1862 aged 16 and was buried at Stillorgan Graveyard.
2 Richard Massey born 1 Jun 1848 at Bodie’s Bridge baptised at Kilternan.
3 William Thomas Massey born 20 Apr 1850 at Kingstown baptised at Kilternan.
4 Hugh Massey born 20 Apr 1850 at Kingstown baptised at Kilternan.
5 John Henry Massey born 1 Jun 1852 at New Road baptised at Kilternan married Mary
Elizabeth Collins, daughter of William Collins, a farmer on 8 Sep 1874 at the Wesleyan
Church, Blackrock. They has 9 children of whom 8 were alive in 1911. The lived at
Beech Cottage 19 Booterstown Avenue.
John was running the bakery in Stillorgan by 1883 and was also the Postmaster at 19
Booterstown Avenue. The bakery was close to the entrance to Beaufield and was run
as a restaurant for a short number of years. The Massey Bakery went into liquidation in
1917 and the residence, shop, bake house and stores were put up for sale. John died
25 Nov 1927 and Mary died 17 Dec 1928 and both were buried at Deansgrange.

2 William Henry Massey born 25 Jan 1877 at Beech Cottage, Booterstown became
a Methodist minister. He married Anna Martha Robinson, daughter of William
Robinson, clergyman at The Methodist Church in Mullingar town on 18 Sep 1900.
He ministered in Waterford, Roscrea and at Rathgar in County Dublin. He was
secretary of the Chapel Department of Wesley College and president of the
Methodist Church in Ireland. He died 26 Jun 1937 at St Andrew’s Manse, SCR. The
funeral service was held at the Centenary Church on St Stephen's Green and he
was buried at Roscrea graveyard.
1 Eric William Massey born circa 1902 and of Edenvale Road, Rathgar
married Ruth Ewen, daughter of Henry Ewen on 30 Aug 1939 at the
Methodist Church, Brighton Road.
2 Winifred Lilian Massey born 17 Sep 1903 at Drumshambo, won the
Lynn scholarship in March 1918 and died 30 May 1918 at the Manse in
Roscrea.
3 Henry Noel Massey born 9 Dec 1906 at Lurgan.
3 Edward Wingfield Massey born 3 Aug 1878 in Booterstown. Edward was a civil
servant and living at Ashton, Booterstown avenue when he married Czarina
Margaret Gay, daughter of John Edward Gay, a librarian of Victoria Avenue,
Donnybrook on 24 Jun 1904 at Kingstown Methodist Church. Edward was a civil
servant living at Ushers Quay in 1911. He joined the Royal Highlanders (Black
Watch) and served in France and Flanders during the Great War. On his return he
lived at North Frederick Street and was a superintendent of the College Green
branch of the GPO. Edward died on 19 Nov 1932 and was buried at Mount Jerome.

Stillorgan Road in 1911. He joined the Argyll And Sutherland Highlanders
(Princess Louise).
5 Margaretta Florence Massey born 5 Jun 1882 at Beech Cottage, Booterstown was a
PO assistant in 1901. She was awarded a medal by the Royal Humane Society in 1897
for saving a drowning woman and resuscitating her at Clonakilty in 1897. Margaretta
died suddenly on 27 Jan 1905 at her home in Booterstown and a memorial service was
held at Blackrock Methodist Church and she was buried at Glasnevin.
6 Evaline Marion Massey born 30 Dec 1883 at Beech Cottage was a PO assistant in 1901.
She was awarded a testimonial by The Royal Humane Society for helping to save a
woman from drowning at Clonakilty in 1897. She married Charles F Crow of
Morehampton Tce, Donnybrook on 5 Aug 1919 at the Blackrock Methodist Church.
She died 18 Mar 1856 and was buried at Deansgrange with her parents.
7 Irene Constance Massey born 22 May 1885 at 19 Booterstown Avenue was a PO
assistant in 1901. She married Wesley Fletcher Hanna, son of Robert Hanna on
16 Sep 1915 at Blackrock Methodist Church. Wesley was an accountant with Switzer &
Co and later became a director and secretary of the firm. They lived at Beechwood
Avenue, Ranelagh. Wesley died on 4 Sep 1955, survived by his wife and daughter.
8 Charles Victor Massey born 25 Nov 1887 at Beech Cottage Booterstown was a master
baker and married Eva Harding daughter of P Gilbert Harding at Howth on 5 Sep 1912.
9 Ernest Frederick (Ernie) Massey born 15 Nov 1893 at Beech Cottage, 19 Booterstown
Avenue was an insurance clerk in 1911 and an insurance inspector by 1921. He married
Helen Johnston, daughter of Gabriel Johnson, a veterinary surgeon of 13 Gilford Avenue,
Sandymount on 23 Aug 1921 at Sandymount Methodist Church.
6 Edward Wingfield Massey born 21 Jul 1854 at New Road, baptised at Kilternan. Of Stillorgan,
and a baker, he married Martha Jane Levingston, daughter of Thomas Levingston, merchant
of 5 Kingsland Parade at St Peters Parish Church Dublin on 26 May 1880. They immigrated to
Australia.
Richard, a widower secondly married Sarah A Collins, daughter of William Collins, a farmer of
Templeogue at Tallaght Parish Church on 27 Sep 1866. Richard ran the bakery in Stillorgan from 1866.
The bakery was based at Beaufield Cottage and it was broken into, and robbed in 1867. Richard died
12 Nov 1888 at Stillorgan and was buried at Stillorgan Graveyard with his first wife and daughter.
