1 Henry Martley fourth son born circa 1803 admitted Kings Inn in 1828 and practiced as a
barrister. He married Marianna (Mary Anne) McNaghten 7 Dec 1833 at St Georges’ Church.
Marianne was the youngest daughter of Robert McNaghten of Mountjoy Square. Henry
Martley, QC was appointed Law Adviser at the Castle in 1846. They lived at Sherrington,
Bray Co Dublin from 1847 with their town residence at Harcourt Street. Henry was
appointed Chief Commission of the Encumbered Estates Courts in 1857 on a salary of 3K per
Annum. He was appointed Judge of the Landed Estate courts in 1858. He died 4 Mar 1859 at
Sherrington and his funeral service was held at St James’, Bray and he was buried at St
Georges, NCR. The family were still living at Sherrington in 1868. Mary Anne died 9 Jun 1873
at Aubrey, Shankill and was buried with her husband.
1 Mary Charlotte Martley born 17 Jan 1836 at Lower Gardiner Street married Rev Gerald
Ormsby Vandeleur at Rathmichael Church on 6 Jul 1868 at Rathmichael Church.
Gerald curate of Alverstoke, Southampton was son of George Vandelour of
Ballinamona, Co Limerick.
2 Son Martley born March 1837 at Lower Gardiner Street died young.
3 Robert Henry Martley eldest son born June 1839 married Selina Grace Waring on
18 Jul 1867 at Warrington Church. Selina was the youngest daughter of the late Major
Henry Waring of Waringstown, County Down. Robert died at 14 Hatch Street on
5 May 1878. Selina died 4 Dec 1904 at The Vicarage, Crawley in Sussex.
1 Henry Launcelot Martley born 4 Jun 1868 at 14 Hatch Street took Holy orders
and was living with his family in Crawley in 1911.
2 Clara Helen Martley born 32 Jul 1869 at 14 Hatch Street a schoolmistress living
at Martley Worchester in 1911.
3 Daughter Martley born 14 Jan 1871 at 14 Hatch Street.
4 Beatrice Verina Martley 23 Apr 1872 at 14 Hatch Street a schoolmistress living
at Martley Worchester in 1911.
4 Henrietta Maria Martley, second daughter born 26 Jan 1841 at Lower Gardiner Street
married the Rev Richard Lockwood Giveen at Rathmichael Church 14 Nov 1865. Richard
was the assistant chaplain at Carysfort Church. The family were in Clerkenwell by 1882
where Rev Richard remained as incumbent until 17 Dec 1910.
5 Isabella Jane Martley, third daughter born 2 Oct 1842 at Harcourt Street baptised at St
Peters married Rev Henry Watters Carson at St Peter’s Church on 26 Jun 1872. Henry
was the incumbent of Ballyclog, Co Tyrone and the son of the Bishop of Killmore; Thomas
Carson. He was later incumbent of Rathmichael and Santry. He died in Lucerne in 1895.
6 John Martley second son born 15 May 1844 educated at Columba’s College and
graduated Trinity. He was called to the bar in 1875 but never practiced. He was a writer
and poet under the pen name Erl Viking. He was barrister and married Frances
Elizabeth Howorth on 6 Oct 1881 at St Mark’s Church, Worsley, Lancashire. Frances was
the youngest daughter of the late Henry Howorth of Lisbon, Portugal. John died on
25 Aug 1882 at 116 Rathgar Road. Frances was living in Chapel En Le Frith, Derbyshire in
with her mother in 1891.
7 Marianne Martley born December 1845 at Harcourt Street a spinster living with her
sister Henrietta in 1921.
8 Alice Anne Martley 25 Jun 1849 at Harcourt Street married Yelveton Dawson on
3 Jan 1871 at St Peters Church. Yelverton was the only son of Yelverton Dawson of 59
Pembroke Road and Bellevue House, Mallow. Yelverton was a doctor and the family
moved to England. They were living at Heathlands, Belle Vue Road, Southbourne,
Christchurch in 1911.
9 Henry Frederick Martley born 12 Aug 1847 at Harcourt Street was living at Hatch Street
in 1882. He had his practice at 24 Westland Row. He married Constance Eva Vandelour
on 5 Jan 1886 at St Mark’s. Constance of Caulston House, Dunboyne, Co Meath was the
daughter of George Vandelour of Ballinamona, Co Limerick. The couple lived at
Drummartin Lodge from 1887 to 1904 and had no issue. By 1910 they were living at
Glenville House, Stillorgan (now the site of Belfield Court) Henry died at Glenville on
28 Aug 1922 and left 4K in personal estate in the UK. Constance 10 Jan 1923 at Glenville
aged 65. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
10 Clemena Elizabeth Martley, youngest daughter born 15 Jul 1851 at Harcourt Street
baptised at St Peters married Alfred Charles de Burgh on 25 Feb 1880 at the Cathedral
Quebec. Alfred was resident at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada and son of the
late Rev William de Burgh, Rector of Ardboe, Co Tyrone. Alfred later was a librarian at
Trinity College Dublin and in 1911 the family were living at Shankill. Clemena died in
1916.
