Maguires of Whitehall
James Maguire lived at Whitehall from 1802 to 1811.
Mathew Maguire was a merchant of 25 Denmark Street in 1794. He was selling seeds, straw
and oats and was based in South Cope Street from 1802 to 1817. He was the secretary to
the Dublin Grand Jury sworn in to value property for the Wide Streets Commission. He was a
director of the Grand Canal Company and was living at Whitehall in 1814 when he put High
Thorn in Glenageary up for sale. He also had 360’ of building ground beside the house of
William Saurin, Atorney General for sale. He still had offices at 13 Cope Street South in 1820.
