Daniel Levingston married Mary. Mary died 26 Apr 1820 aged 24 and was buried at Donnybrook
Graveyard. Daniel was the gardener at Merville in the employ of Baron William Downes. With his
employer Baron William Downes, he won many awards from the RHS. He opened a nursery in
Balls-bridge circa 1828. The nursery was damaged in the storm of 1834, trees torn up and walls
knocked over. He was a founder member of the Floral & Horticultural Association in 1839. He won
awards for his pelargoniums, Orcidaceaus and was famous for his auriculas. He won the Downshire
Cup in 1843 for the 3rd time. In 1851, some property was stolen from his house in Balls-bridge by
persons unknown under the guise of regulating a clock. Daniel, Rosa and Catherine are buried with
Mary in Donnybrook.
