Law Family of Winton House, Stillorgan
Michael Law of 8 Great Denmark Street and Castle Fish, Kildare eldest son of late Robert Law
married Jane Hannah Hamilton, daughter of Hans Hamilton of Sheephill at Castleknock in
September 1819. Michael was senior partner of Law & Finlay’s bank, a member of the Ouzel
Galley and a director of the Bank of Ireland. The banking partnership that was disolved in
1829 and a orderly wind-up of the bank ensued. They lived at The Cottage, Raheny, a
Victorian mansion renamed Grangemore and purchased by Charles Haughey in 1960 for
housing development. Jane died at Raheny in 1822.
He secondly married Sarah Anne Fitzgerald daughter of Crofton Vandeleur Fitzgerald of
Carrigoran, Clare and niece of Lieutenant General Sir Augustine Fitzgerald, Bart at St George’s
Church, Dublin. That same year Michael was elected a life member of the RDS. They put the
Cottage in Raheny up for let in 1841. Michael died at Holyhead, Anglesea in 1858 and left
45K in personal estate. Sarah lived at Winton Stillorgan from 1861 to 1865 when the house
was put up for sale. She died at Folkstone in 1887.

Winton House, Stillorgan married Acheson Thompson Henderson a Barrister at Law of 60
Mountjoy Square, son of John Henderson on 08.10.1861 at St George’s Church, Dublin.
Acheson was appointed King’s Counsel. He lived at Drumlampe, Londonderry. Acheson died
on 12.02.1909 aged 96 years and Harriette died on 05.11.1912 aged 79 years both at
Northbrook Road.
1 Major John Acheson Henderson born 19.10.1863 at 60 Mountjoy Square. John of the
8th Hussars married Mary Stella French daughter of William Michael French and
Frances Browning Hone on 16.06.1930 at the Parish Church of St Bartholomew the
Great, London. He was awarded the DSO and OBE. He lived in Devon.
2 William Needham Michael Henderson born 30.01.1865 at 60 Mountjoy Square and
died 13.02.1865. Buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Harriet Sarah Henderson born 04.06.1866 at 60 Mountjoy Square and died on
14.09.1902 aged 36 years at Friarsland, Carrickmines.
4 Alice Maud Henderson born 12.06.1867.
5 Acheson Fitzgerald Henderson born circa 1869 called to the Bar, Inner Temple

2 Robert Law born 25.07.1836 married Emily Creagh daughter of Giles Vandeleur Creagh on
08.08.1860 at St George’s Church, Dublin. Robert died on 18.10.1884 aged 48 years at
Ballysax.

Servant and advisor to the Indian and Turkish Governments. He died on 01.11.1908 in Paris.

Brighton.
9 Sir Archibald Fitzgerald Law born 02.02.1853 in Nice, France. Archibald the District Judge of
Famagosta, Cyprus married Louisa Alice Squarey 2nd daughter of Elias Pitts Squarey of the
Moat, Downton, Wiltshire on 03.10.1883 at Downton Parish Church. Archibald died on
26.07.1921 aged 68 years of Stanbridge near Wimborne.

11 Elizabeth Maria Law married Charles Hodgson of the parish of Stillorgan eldest son of Henry
Hodgson of Ballyraine, Wicklow on 10.07.1856 at the Chapel of the British Embassy, Paris.
