Knox Family of Monkstown
John Knox 2nd son of John Knox and Ann King of Castlerea was a Major in the Sligo Regiment of
Militia. John married Eleanor Anne Knox eldest daughter of Francis Knox of Rappa Castle, Mayo.

1 John Frederick Knox elder son born 28.02.1789 of Mount Falcon, Mayo. He was a Lieutenant
Colonel of the Sligo Militia and married Anna Maria Knox Gore eldest daughter of James
Knox Gore of Broadlands Park, Mayo on 28.01.1819 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. John died
20.09.1871 aged 82 years at his residence Mount Falcon.
2 Maria Anne Knox married John Knox of Castlerea and Woodstock.
3 Francis Knox 2nd son born circa 1790 died circa 1793.
Eleanor died in 1790 and John married secondly Catherine Chaloner 2nd daughter of Richard
Chaloner of Kingsfort, Meath circa 14.04.1811.
1 Lieutenant General Richard Knox eldest son born circa 12.05.1812 married Mary Letitia
McMasters daughter of Colonel McMasters of the Indian Army on 14.08.1844 at Bangalore,
India. Richard was a Captain in the 18th Hussars.
1 Horace Chaloner Knox, 3rd son born circa 1853 qualified as a civil engineer and
worked for the Public Works Department in India, mainly on railway projects and
retired in 1892. He died at 108 Northside, Clapham Common July 1928.
2 Colonel Eustace John Chaloner Knox born circa 1860 of the 18th Hussars and 2nd
Cavalry Brigade in South Africa died 18.02.1902 aged 41 years in London.
3 Colonel Richard Knox Jnr, followed his father into the 18th Huzzars.
2 Frances Maria Knox born circa 1814 married William Pitt Blunden son of William Pitt Blunden
of Wellington, Kilkenny on 01.09.1846 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin.
3 Captain Edward Chaloner Knox 2nd son born 20.01.1815 married Alicia Hewitt Caroline St
George youngest daughter of late Acheson St George of Woodpark, Armagh on 15.10.1856
at Tynan Church. Edward died 04.04.1896 aged 81 years and Alice died 01.10.1913 aged 84
years both at Silverton, Monkstown.
Alice commissioned the Knox Memorial Hall in Monkstown in memory of her husband
Edward and her nephew Eustace. It was opened in June 1908 by the Archbishop of Dublin
having being designed by Mr Millar of Millar & Symes and built by Christopher T Jolley of
Abilene, Newtown Park.
3 Captain Robert John Knox 3rd son born circa 01.09.1817 of the 6th Dragoon Guards married
Philippa Allen Lindesay daughter of F Lindesay of Longhry, Tyrone.
5 Eliza Knox born circa 1817 married Sir John Blunden on 22.04.1839 at St George’s Church,
Hanover Square, London. George died 27.01.1890 aged 75 years and Elizabeth died on
05.10.1900 aged 84 years at Lorum Vicarage the home of her daughter Nicole.
6 Catherine Anne Knox youngest daughter died 06.10.1823 at Dunmore East.
