William Kenny born 14.01.1846 in Dublin only son of Edward Kenny of Kilrush, Co Clare and
Catherine Murphy. He graduated Trinity, was admitted Kings Inns and called to the Irish Bar
in 1868. He married Mary Coffey on 13.08.1873 at All Hallows College, Drumcondra. Mary
was the daughter of David Coffey of Belvedere House, Drumcondra and they had eight
children. They were living at Ardmeen in Blackrock in 1887 when their daughter Mildred was
born. William served as Solicitor General from 1895-1898 and then was appointed a Judge of
the High Court. In 1902 he was sworn into the Irish Privy Council. The family were living at
Fitzwilliam Place in 1901 and by 1911 were living at Marlfield in Cabinteeley. William died at
Marlfield (later known as St Gabriel's) in Cabinteely on 04.02.1921 and was buried at
Deansgrange. His portrait by Sarah Purser hangs in the Kings Inns. Mary died at Marlfield
13.09.1934 and was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Edward Henry Kenny eldest son born at 47 Mountjoy Square on 01.05.1874. He died
a bachelor and retired probate registrar at Marlfield, Cabinteely on 15.10.1944. He was
buried at Deansgrange.
2 Ethel Mary Kenny born at 47 Mountjoy Square on 13.11.1875 moved to Shrewsbury
Road in 1948. Ethel died in a car accident on 14 Sep 1963 and was buried at
Deansgrange.
3 Laura Catherine Kenny, second daughter born at 47 Mountjoy Square on 01.01.1878
married Leonard Morrough-Ryan elder son of the late Leonard Morrough of Fitzwilliam
Place and Sleedagh, Co Wexford in the Roman Catholic Church in Cabinteely on
03.01.1906.
1 Barbara Wilhelmina Mary Morrough-Ryan born 13.06.1907 at St Margaret's, NCR.
4 Mary (Betty) Kenny, third daughter married Robert Scot Pringle, only son of Robert Brown
Pringle of Ardmore, Guilford at Westminster Cathedral 05.04.1913. Robert was killed at the
front on 15.09.1914.
1 Daphne Pringle born circa 1914 married Ian Denys Gregorie Tulloch on 11.02.1935 at
St James' Church, Spanish Place.
Betty secondly married the Hon Hubert Preston of the Royal Irish Regiment at St James',
Spanish Place, London in January 1917. Hubert died on 12.07.1940 at Marlfield. Mary died
at Bloomfield Nursing Home in 1971 and was buried at Deansgrange.
2 Penelope Sybil Mary Preston born 1917 in London died in a traffic accident at
Booterstown and was buried at Deansgrange.
3 Georgina Ismay Mary Preston born 06.12.1919 at Gormanston, Drogheda. She married
Alfred Stanley Head in July 1948.
5 William David Kenny born on 24.01.1882 at 35 Fitzwilliam Place was educated at the Oratory
School and at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
and rose to the rank of Colonel. He was military secretary to the Governor General of the
Sudan in 1907. He married Alexandra (Shoura) Mouravieff* at the Brompton Oratory on
23.07.1913 and Shoura's sister, Milne Cheetham hosted a reception at Berkeley Street.
Shoura was the daughter of M. Nicholas Mouravieff, who was the Russian Ambassador to Rome.
He served with the Egyptian army for 18 years and was awarded the Order of Osmanieh. He
was ADC to the Sultan of Egypt from 1915 to 1917. He was later military governor of Gaza, Jaffa
and Nablus. In 1926 he received an OBE in the Birthday Honours list. They were living at Carlisle
Mansions, London in 1941. William died 16.11.1963 at 51 Ailesbury Road and was buried at
Deansgrange. Shoura died 28.08.1966 at Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire.
1 Alexandra (Sascha) M A Kenny born 1914 in London was one of the founders of the Fairy
Hill Hospital at Howth alongside Dr Bob Collis. The hospital initially looked after inner
city children with TB. It later took care of distressed children including a number of
children who had survived Bergen-Belsen. She was manager of the hospital and
also a governor of Sir Patrick Dun's Hospital in the 1950s and 1960s.
2 Patricia E Kenny born 1915 in London married Raymond C S Price in 1948 in
Gloucestershire.
3 Sylvia Kenny youngest daughter born circa 1918 in Egypt. She married Peter Cedric (Cedric)
Barnett in 1941. Cedrick was the son of Geoffrey and Lady Aline Barnett of Sopwell, St Albans.
6 Bertram Maurice Kenny younger son born 12.08.1884 at Malahide, Edward joined the
Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) and attained the rank of Major. He married Mary
Rachel Jackson on on 19.06.1925 in London. Mary Rachel was the eldest daughter of Ernest
Jackson of Withnell House, Lancashire. Bertram died 23 May 1926 at Rugby and was buried
at Deansgrange. He left 2k in personal estate.
7 Mildred Mary Kenny born on 14.07.1887 at Ardmeen, Blackrock. She married Captain
Robert Quinten Craufurd at St Peter's Church, Palace Street, London on 05.10.1909. Mildred
died in 1929 at Ferozepore, India.
8 Gerald Kenny born on 22.10.1888 at 35 Fitzwilliam Place died before 1911.
* Shoura born on 4 May 1886 in Russia, baptised on 4 September was the illegitimate daughter of
Nikolai Valerianovich Muravyev (Mouravieff, 1850-1908), and Acting State Councillor, Minister of
Justice (1895-1905), Ambassador in Rome (1905-1908).
