William John Johnston a Wine Merchant of 15 Capel Street son of Richard Johnston married
Harriet Maria Johnston daughter of John Johnston in 1893. In 1897 Johnston & Co of 152
Capel Street and Seapoint House were agents for Dr Tibbles V1 Cocoa. William and Harriet
ran the Leicester Arms Hotel in Enniskerry from 1897 until 1916 when Henry B Prosser
took over the license. Harriet also rented out apartments at Aberdelgie House on Seapoint
Avenue. In 1908 William was proprietor of both the Leicester Arms and the Powerscourt
Arms in Enniskerry and they were also acting as tea dealers. In 1911 Harriet is at Seapoint
and four of their five children have survived. In 1913 the Munster and Leinster Bank put
Seapoint House and Aberdelgie House up for sale. In 1915 the lease on the Leinster Arms
was put up for sale. The Powerscourt Arms was for sale in 1916 as the mortgage was
outstanding and was purchased by Laurence Cullen of Ashford for £800. This sale fell
through and the hotel was eventually sold to Michael Tallen (Tallow) for £225.

2 Thomas Johnston born 1894 and died 11.03.1895 aged 5 months at Seapoint
House.
3 William Reginald (Reginald) Johnston born 08.02.1896 at Seapoint joined the
Australian army and died in 1941.
4 Amy (Constance) Johnston born 06.12.1897 at Seapoint House. Amy aged 18
years went to Melbourne Australia on 25.02.1916 with her sister Harriet.
5 Harriet Muriel (Muriel) Johnston born on 13.09.1900 at Aberdelgie, Seapoint.
Harriet aged 16 years went to Melbourne Australia on 25.02.1916 with her sister
Amy.
