Jesson family of Farmleigh
Thomas Fox Jesson, son of James Jesson, a haberdasher of Dame Street and Rachel Smith who
ran a children’s linen shop from Dame Street. Thomas was born circa 1780 and married Letitia
Robinson at St Peter’s Church on 25 Mar 1818. He was a clerk with the bank of Boyle, Low, Pim
& Co until 1839 when his brother James died. James was a gold and silver laceman and had a
hat business at 12 Dame Street which he had succeeded to on the death of his father in 1811.
Thomas took over his brother’s business and died circa 1844. Letitia died 13 May 1880 aged 86
at Annavilla, 25 Sydney Avenue, Blackrock, her son Henry was with her at the end.

3 Letitia Jesson born 21 Feb 1824 baptised at St Peters died 10 Sep 1889 aged 65 at
Mount Pleasant Square, Rathmines.
4 Marianne Jesson born 26 Nov 1825 baptised at St Peters died 21 Apr 1907 aged 83 at
Annavilla, 25 Sydney Avenue Blackrock.
5 Henry Fox Jesson born 3 Mar 1833 at Cullenswood baptised at St Peters was living at
Westland Row when he married Jane Lapelletrie, only daughter of the late L Lapelletrie, a
builder from Libourne in France on 21 Oct 1858 at St Marks Church, Dublin. Henry was a
Professor of Music with rooms as 23 Percy Place. He was the organist at Stillorgan Parish
Church from 1870 to 1890 and lived at 1 Belmont Terrace until 1894. He died at Annavilla,
Blackrock on 9 Oct 1909.
1 Marie Letitia Jesson born March 1863 was the organist at Kells Parish Church but
resigned her job in 1891 to move to America. She lived at Springfield, Hampden
where she was employed as an organist. She returned to Ireland in 1899 and took
her father on a trip to Boston, Massachusetts on board the SS Victorian. She was
back in Ireland by 1907 and was present at the death of her Aunt Marianne. She
died 11 Nov 1929 at 67 Upper Georges Street, Dun Laoghaire.
2 James Lapelletrie Jesson born 13 Aug 1864 at Percy Place, Donnybrook. He took Holy
Orders and was ordained Deacon in 1889 appointed to Lisburn He married
Constance Jane Mahony of Morehampton Road on 10 Oct 1889 at St Bartholomew’s
on Clyde Road. Constance was the youngest daughter of Sarah Jane and John Mahony
MD. Her father was the medical officer at Ballyduff and then Cappoquin.
James and Constance were living at Seymour Street in Lisburn but they put their
household goods up for sale in 1893 as James was given the incumbency of Rathangan in
Kildare using Farmleigh as a Dublin base for his wife and mother in law. James was a
singer and musician, he played the harmonium, piano and organ. He also sang popular
songs of the day such as 'Fiddle and I'. He was also a choir conductor and the diocesan
Choral master. He was made Canon of St Brigid’s Cathedral, Kildare in 1909 and precentor
in 1914. He died at the Rathangan Rectory on 26 Aug 1920. Constance died at 2 Eaton
Square, Blackrock on 16 Jan 1956.
1 James Mahony Jesson born 23 Jul 1890 at Farmleigh, Stillorgan married Janet
Evelyn Vaughan White. James died 19 Oct 1954 at Vancouver.

2 Constance Jesson born 14 Jun 1896 at Farmleigh, Stillorgan died aged 22 on
13 Jan 1919 at Rathangan Rectory.
