Hutchinson family of Drummartin Lodge
Robert Deey Hutchinson was the son of John Hutchinson and Jane Spedding and the
grandson of Whilhelmina Charlotte Deey. Robert a merchant from Dublin married his
cousin Wilhelmina Elizabeth Spedding, daughter of the Rev William Spedding, Vicar of
Ballyherbert, diocese of Down at St Andrews, Ballyherbert on 27 Dec 1861. His brother
William Hutchinson assisted at the service. Wilhelmina died in 1865.
1 Robert William Hutchinson born 13 Aug 1863 at Eglington Terrace baptised in
Taney.
Robert secondly married Mary Jane Rounds, third daughter of Edward Rounds of 6
Sydenham Terrace, Dundrum. The couple lived at Drummartin Lodge from 1867 to
1880. Robert was involved in the tobacco industry and died 21 Aug 1905 aged 78 at 37
Leinster Road. Mary Jane died 29 Dec 1914 aged 68 at 141 Leinster Road.
2 Edward Hutchinson eldest son of Mary, born 9 May 1868 at Drummartin Lodge
baptised Taney 28 Jun 1868. Edward worked for the Hong Kong & Shanghai
Banking Corporation before joning the Anglo Egyptian Bank. He died 17 Jun 1907
at 37 Leinster Road and was buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Henry Hutchinson born 10 May 1869 at Drummartin Lodge. Henry joined the
Royal navy and attained the rank of captain. He died 9 Oct 1920 at Mombassa
East Africa.
4 Sarah Charlotte Hutchinson born 31 Oct 1870 at Drummartin Lodge married
Stanley Victor Savage on 21 Apr 1911 at the Church of the Holy Trinity,
Rathmines and they lived at 37 Leinster Road.
5 William Deey Hutchinson, third son born 17 Jan 1873 at Drummartin Lodge
married Ruby Ethel Thompson, youngest daughter of Charles H Thompson of
Limehurst, Palatine Road, West Didsbury at the Church of St Emanuel, Didsbury
on 21 Dec 1907. William died 10 Jan 1944 at Suez.
6 Mary Jane Hutchinson born 3 Aug 1875 at Drummartin Lodge living at Leinster
Road with her father in 1905.
7 Samuel Hutchinson born 13 Feb 1877 Drummartin Lodge took Holy orders and
was curate of St Matthew's in Irishtown from 1900 to 1905 before becoming curate
of SS Philip & James in Booterstown. He then moved to Tonbridge where he was
curate before becoming Vicar of St Mary's Plaistow in 1922.
8 Kathleen Hutchinson born 10 Mar 1878 at Drummartin Lodge trained as a nurse
and was living at 37 Leinster Road with her mother in 1911.
