James Huffington born circa 1777 a freeman of Dublin city in the guild of tailors in 1809
and a warden of the guild in 1810. He was a tailor and woollen draper of 21, Bachelor’s
Walk, Dublin from 1811 to 1825. He was a merchant tailor of Sackville Street from 1825
to 1839. He travelled backwards and forwards to London to purchase cloth. He
removed from Bachelor’s Walk to 47 Upper Sackville Street in 1825 and also took in
boarders. He retired in 1839 and put the interest in the lease of 47 Sackville Street up for
sale. The family moved to Dawson Court in 1840. He erected two buildings on Mount
Merrion Avenue; shops with living accommodation nearly opposite Waltham terrace and
put them up for sale in 1846 (now The Butler’s Pantry & Lisneys). He died at Dawson
Court, Cross Avenue, Booterstown in 1851. Probate granted to Jemima Huffington
26 Nov 1851.
1 Mary Huffington, eldest daughter born circa 1803 died 23 Oct 1819 at Ranelagh.
2 William Ross Huffington baptised 6 Nov 1808 at St Mary's.
3 Lucy Huffington eldest daughter born circa 1809 died in March 1840 at Dawson
Court.
4 Margaret baptised 19 August 1810 at St Mary's.
5 Sophia Huffington baptised 12 April 1814 at St Marys died an infant and was
buried 17 Apr 1814 at St Mary's.
6 Sophia Huffington baptised 27 December 1815 at St Mary's buried at St Mary's
3 Jan 1827.
7 Margaret Eliza baptised 11 November 1818 at St Mary’s buried at St Mary’s
20 June 1838 aged 20.
8 Sarah Huffington second daughter died on 29 Mar 1835.
9 Jemima Huffington baptised 27 Sep 1821 at St Mary’s as only daughter married
William Jackson junior of Annefield, Booterstown on 5 Aug 1843 at St Anne’s Church,
Dublin. Jemima died 27 Jan 1853 aged 32.
1 Jemima Charlotte Jackson born circa 1852. As only surviving daughter she
married William Henry Steward on 1 Oct 1873 at St Mary's Donnybrook.
William died 3 Apr 1875 at Leeson Street. Jemima died at Leeson Street
4 May 1876 aged 24 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
