Richard Hudson of Dublin came of age in 1776 and had land in Wicklow, Tyrone and Co
Louth. He leased land in Hunterstown and Strabannon, County Louth in 1784 to Rev
Edward Hudson for three lives and 31 years. He married Catherine Nixon of Nixon Hall
Co Fermanagh in December 1784. Richard traded as Henry and Hudson at College
Green and the partnership was dissolved in 1805. By 1806 he was a woollen draper
and men’s mercer working at 46 Westmoreland Street.
1 Edward Hudson eldest son born 6 Sep 1785 graduated Trinity and admitted
Kings Inns in 1807. He was living at Weston in 1856 and died 6 Feb 1858 at
Weston near Bath.
2 Alexander Hudson born circa 1786 in Dublin graduated Trinity College and
took Holy orders. He was curate of Clongish in 1820 and was then employed in
England. He was living at Newtown Forbes, Longford and married Harriet
Susanna Hunt in May 1827 at St Marys Church, Dublin. Harriet was the third
daughter of James Hunt of Sackville Street. He was appointed curate of
Templemichael in the Diocese of Kilmore. During the cholera epidemic of 1832,
he visited the sick and dying alongside Captain William Walker. He was appointed
Rector of Killashee in 1846. Alexander died from dysentery on 2 Oct 1856 at
Mount Haig, Kingstown. Harriet died 13 Aug 1859 at Templeton, Killashee and
left 2K in personal estate. No Issue found.
3 Frances Catherine Hudson eldest daughter died at Belmont Avenue on
8 Mar 1840.
4 Richard Hudson third son born circa 1789 educated at Trinity and admitted
Kings Inns. He was living at Dorset Street and married Hannah Dyas at St
Anne’s Church on 4 Mar 1815. Hannah was the eldest daughter of John Dyas
of Kilbegg, Co Meath. Richard was on the committee of Hoeyfield Boarding
School in Delgany in 1836 and high Sheriff for County Wicklow in 1838. He
was struck off the register of barristers in 1843 by his own desire. The
family moved from Spring Farm, Newtownmountkennedy to Roebuck House
in 1850. Richard Hudson died 26 Sep 1860 at Christ Church Parsonage Tunbridge
Wells late of Roebuck House and Spring Farm, Co Wicklow. Hannah died
16 Jan 1863 at Hourah House, Tunbridge Wells. Both are buried Woodbury Park,
Tunbridge Wells.
1 Margaret Frances Hudson, eldest daughter born circa 1822 married Francis
Charles Hassard at Delgany Church on 15 Aug 1846. Frances was the eldest
son of the late Sir Francis Hassard of Waterford. Francis died 12 Sep 1850
at Catania, Sicily.
1 Francis John Hudson eldest son born circa 1847 died 17 Apr 1888 at
6 Belmont Terrace.
2 Charles Alexander Joseph Hudson born circa 1851.
Margaret secondly married the Rev Benjamin Dickson on 18 Apr 1856 at
St Peter’s Dublin. The marriage was conducted by her uncle the Rev
Alexander Hudson.
2 Richard Hudson only son born December 1825 died on 21 May 1835 and
was buried at Delgany aged 9.
3 Catherine Hudson baptised at Delgany 30 Dec 1827.
5 Catherine Hudson second daughter married George Carson on 15 Jul 1824 at
St George’s Church. George was the only son of Thomas Carson of Crohan Hill,
Co Cavan. They were married by the Rev Alexander Hudson.
6 Eliza Hudson died 20 Feb 1837 aged 28 at Jersey.
7 Anne Hudson born circa 1807 lived at Prospect Cottage, Bray and later at
Palermo. She was on the ladies committee of the Stillorgan Convalescent Home.
She died a spinster 3 Jan 1890 at Palermo, Mount Merrion Avenue. She was
buried at Mount Jerome. She left 8K in personal estate, probate to Richard W
Hassard (husband of Emily Hudson) of Summerville, Waterford.
8 George Hudson fifth son born circa 1802 educated at Portarlington admitted
Kings Inns in 1818. He was an officer in the Court of Chancery and retired on a
salary of 900pa. He lived at Templecarrig House and 38 Mountjoy Square. He
married Isabella Sarah Hunter O’Reilly in June 1830. Isabella was the second
daughter of Captain John Tracy O’ Reilly of the 5th Dragoon Guards and Kilquade
House. George was appointed a High Sheriff in 1851. Isabella died 1 Dec 1863
at Templecarrig. George was injured in August 1863 when his horse fell on him
and he and the family went to Buxton to aid his recovery. George hanged
himself on 11 Aug 1867 at Templecarrig and was buried at Christ Church, Delgany.

2 Richard Beresford Hudson eldest son born 28 Nov 1837 married Harriet
Eliza Pratt at Monkstown Church on 20 Mar 1862. Harriet was the
daughter of Colonel Charles Pratt. They lived at Mount Slaney where
Richard died 4 Jun 1874.
1 Edward Charles Hudson only son died a bachelor on 27 Jan 1918
at Mount Slaney aged 50.
3 Frances Anne Hudson born circa 1838 died a spinster on 2 Feb 1904 at
Templecarrig House. Annie Knox the informant. She was buried at Christ
Church, Delgany.
4 John Alexander Hudson born 23 Mar 1842 at Mountjoy Square died
23 Jul 1902 in England.
5 George Henry Hudson third son born 2 Nov 1846 at Templecarrig died a
bachelor on 6 Jun 1891 at Templecarrig.
6 Harriet Fitzwilliam Hudson born 3 Jul 1848 at Mountjoy Square was living
at Baggot Street in 1891. She died a spinster at the Belmont Hotel, Bray on
14 Feb 1935 and was buried at Christ Church, Delgany.
7 Annie Catherine Hudson youngest daughter born circa 1852 married
Francis William Whyte Knox on 1 Jul 1871 at Bray Parish Church. They had
six children of whom four were alive in 1911. Annie died 19 Apr 1915 at
Dargle Road, Bray.
1 Isabella Knox only daughter born circa 1873 died unmarried in 1940.
2 Francis W White Knock born circa 1877 was killed during the rising in
Dublin on 27 Apr 1916.
