1 Robert Wilson Hitchcock (author and play prompter) born circa 1744 in England married
Sarah Webb (born circa 1748) on 22 Jul 1765 at Richmond, Yorkshire. In 1781 Robert came
to Dublin with his wife and children and got a job at theatre prompter at the Smock Alley
Theatre. Sarah was an actress and had worked at the Haymarket Theatre in London. She
had an extensive repertoire and made her first appearance in Dublin in November 1781.
She played Ophelia in Hamlet at the City Theatre, Smock Alley and later that evening played
the part of Miss Kitty in a farce called ’All the World’s a Stage’. They had at least seven
children. Robert died in 29 Oct 1809 at Clarendon Street. Sarah retired from the stage in
1810 and died 22 Jan 1830 aged 82 at Hardwicke Street.
1 Mary Anne born circa 1766, acted for a time on the Dublin stage but retired in 1790
after marrying. She married Jonas Greene on 11 April 1790 at St Anne’s Dublin and
retired from the stage. She became Lady Greene when Jonas was knighted. Jonas
was Recorder of Dublin and died at Bath on 6 Mar 1828. Lady Greene died
23 Nov 1854 at Leeson Street and was buried at Mount Jerome.
2 Robert Hitchcock eldest son born 1768 was a successful child actor. He graduated
Trinity 1787 and was called to the Irish bar in 1791. He married Mary Appleby in
October 1795 at Innishannon. He was appointed one of the Bankrupt Commissioners
in the city of Cork in 1817 and lived at 9 Suffolk Street in 1820. He was living at 23,
Baggot-street in 1828. Mary died on 7 Jul 1843 at Windsor Terrace, Kingstown.
Robert died at Windsor Terrace on 15 May 1849.
1 Robert Hitchcock, eldest son born circa 1799 in Cork, educated at Mr Whites
and graduated Trinity in 1820. He had a practice in Baggot Street and 16
upper Ormand Quay and Grand Parade Cork in 1824. He married Jane
Stewart on 19 Aug 1829 at Killarney Church. Jane was the only daughter of
Robert Stewart of Killarney. They lived at Harcourt Street in 1829, Pembroke
Place in 1839 and Milltown Lodge in 1855. He was Master of the Court of
Exchequer. Robert was declared bankrupt in 1853 and imprisoned in England.
He died at Chester aged 68 on 10 Apr 1867.

2 George Wilson Hitchcock eldest son born circa 1830 married Sarah
Jane Purcell on 14 Jul 1855 at Rathfarnham Parish Church. Sarah was
the daughter of John Theobald Purcell. George died 3 Nov 1857.
1 Edith Kate Hitchcock born 11 Aug 1856 Springville, Roebuck
baptised at Taney.
2 George William Ernest born posthumously on 30 Jan 1858 at
Milltown Lodge.
Sarah secondly married Francis Rudall at Hackney on 23 Apr 1876.
3 Bedford Churchill Hitchcock born circa 1839 joined the Merchant Navy.
He died at Kingstown 16 Jan 1863.
4 Henry Creighton Hitchcock born circa 1841 died 19 Mar 1900 at
Trafalgar Square, Monkstown.

2 William Hitchcock, second son born circa 1810 was educated at Mr White’s
and Trinity College. William was a solicitor with a practice at 186 Great
Brunswick Street. He married Mary Vincent Fitzgerald at Limerick on
12 Sep 1839. Mary was the eldest daughter of Henry Binden Fitzgerald of
Limerick. William died at 19 Northumberland Avenue, Kingstown on
19 Dec 1885. Mary died 25 Apr 1896 at 4 Carlisle Terrace.
1 Arthur Fitzgerald Hitchcock eldest son born April 1841 in Regent
Street. He was a solicitor and lived at Shelbourne House. He died
a bachelor on 30 Mar 1887 at the Royal City of Dublin Hospital. He
was buried at Mount Jerome.

Kildare Street. John died 28 Apr 1867 in Antrim. Catherine died 17 Jun 1876
at Queen’s Elms, Belfast. She was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Henry Hitchcock born circa 1840 was a solicitor and married Julia Walker
on 27 Mar 1860 at St George’s. Julia was the daughter of Captain
Alexander Walker of Goreport, Co Westmeath and his wife Elizabeth.
Henry died at 20 North Frederick Street on 24 May 1864.

Church on 28 Aug 1851. John was a widower, a major in the Madras Army
and the son of Captain William Boyce of the 76 Regiment.
5 Sarah Hitchcock, youngest daughter died 30 Apr 1840.
3 John Hitchcock established as an attorney of 13 Ormand Quay by 1799. Later practiced
from Suffolk Street and North Frederick Street. He married Catherine White of Merrion
Lodge in 1797 and died circa 1819.
1 John Hitchcock, second son born circa 1803 was admitted attorney to his
Majesty’s Court of King’s Bench in Ireland, and a Member of the Honourable
Society of King's Inns in 1824. John married Rosina Perkins on 14 Feb 1826
at St Peter's, Dublin. Rosina was the third daughter of John Perkins of Carlow.
2 Mary Hitchcock third daughter born circa 1807 married George Heath at St
Andrew's Plymouth on 1 Jul 1828. Mary died 8 Feb 1830 at Plymouth after her
first confinement.
