John Hinkson born 6 Jun 1820 at Derrymacrow , County Fermanagh was baptised at Galloon Parish
Church on 10 Jun 1820. He was the son of John Hinkson and Elinor Fleming. He married Jane Sara
Fawsett, daughter of William Fawcett of Glenealy, Co Wicklow in December 1843. John was a saddler
and had premises at 14 Mary Street before moving to 76 Dame Street. He won an RDS medal for his
work in 1844. By 1875 they were living at 42 Parmerston Road. John died 11 Apr 1887 at Pembroke
Street and was buried at Mount Jerome. Jane was living at Strand road in 1901 died 23 Feb 1905 and
was buried with her husband.

Mount Jerome.
2 William Fawcett Hinkson born 13 Dec 1846 at 14 Mary Street.
3 Charles James Hinkson born 2 Apr 1849 at 27 Eustace Street. He married Jane MacDonald
on 1 May 1872 at Grangegorman Church. Jane was born in Londonderry the daughter of
John MacDonald, a civil engineer and Dorinda Alley. He graduated Trinity, took Holy orders
and was ordained in 1874. They had four children. Charles had a bad relationship with
alcohol, which brought him into various conflicts with the arm of the law. He was an
examiner of arithmetic and book-keeping and an assistant master at High School Dublin
before becoming principal of the Diocesan School in Bombay. In 1880 he was incumbent of
Ballinaclash, Co Wicklow living at Ballard Park and taking in private students and in 1882 he
was a chaplain at the Curragh Camp. He opened a private school at The Abbey in Athy in
1891. By 1897 he was in a workhouse in Cambridge, England. In 1901 he was rector at
Rushdown but was a patient at Hancox Home For Inebriates in Battle, Sussex. Charles was
appointed curate of St John’s Holbeck in 1907 and died in London in April 1913. Jane died at
23 Annesley Park on 2 Mar 1935.
1 Mary Jane Ellen Hinkson born 1873 at Salford was a school teacher and worked at
Rutland Ladies School before moving to Celbridge Collegiate School. She died a
spinster at 23 Annesley Park on 11 Jan 1942.
2 Catherine Leonora (Nora) Hinkson was born in Salford, Lancs in 1874. She graduated
BA from the Royal University of Ireland. She was a school attendance inspector.
Catherine lived at Clonmore between 1925 and 1927 and was living at Manor Kilbride in
1953. She died a spinster on 19 Sep 1957 at St Kevin’s Hospital late of 32 Clonard Road
Crumlin.
3 Hilda Georgina Hinkson born 25 Oct 1876 at 126 North Strand Road was living with her
mother in Athy in 1901. She became a school teacher and gave private tuition. She was
working as an assistant at St Mary’s Infant National School, Dublin in 1905 and died a
spinster on 7 Dec 1946 at 31 Belgrave Square.
4 Dorinda Amelia Leake Hinkson born 10 Apr 1880 at 114 North Strand Road was educated
at Kildare Street Ladies College. In 1904 Dorinda was tutoring the Acheson girls (Irene and
Hilda) of Rush Hill House, Co Roscommon in preparation for the London College of Music
examinations. She was a qualified teacher and worked as a governess for the widowed
Rev J C Fahy in Waterville, Co Kerry in 1911. She moved to Harrow on the Hill in
Middlesex in 1931 and became a Christian Scientist. She died a spinster at 23 Annesley
Park, Rathmines on 9 Jan 1952 and was buried at Mount Jerome. She left 2K in personal
estate and her Will was disputed by her sister Nora, but was later resolved.
4 Charlotte Elizabeth Hinkson eldest daughter born 17 Mar 1851 at 4 North Cumberland Street
married John Joseph Burne of Johnstown House, Arklow and second son of Edward Burne of
Ballykeane, Co Wicklow at St Peters Church, Dublin on 29 Sep 1875. They were living in
Templerainey, Arklow in 1901 and had 9 children. In 1906 Charlotte and Joseph travelled to
Montreal in Canada.
5 Sarah Jane Hinkson born 9 Jun 1853 at 20 Charlemont Street died 5 Jun 1854 and was
buried at Mount Jerome.
6 Mary Jane Hinkson born circa 1859 was a teacher and died 15 Jan 1929 at 107 Moyne Road,
Ranelagh.
7 John Richard Hinkson born 5 Jul 1861 and emigrated to the USA.
8 Robert Shaw Hinkson fourth son born 1863 died 27 Jul 1865 at Dame Street age 2 years and 2
months and was buried at Mount Jerome.
9 Henry Albert Hinkson born 18 Apr 1865 at 76 Dame Street was educated at The High School Dublin.
He was a barrister and writer (author of ‘The Point of Honour'). He married Katharine Tynan in
1893. She was an Irish writer, known mainly for her novels and poetry. The Katharine Tynan Road
in Tallaght is named after her. Henry was a magistrate and was posted to Mayo. He died 11 Jan 1919
at Claremorris. Katherine died 2 Apr 1931 in Wimbledon.
1 Pamela Hinkson born 1900 was a writer and lived at 3 Crofton terrace, Monkstown. Her book,
The Ladies' Road (1932), sold over 100,000 copies in the Penguin edition.
2 Theobald Henry Hinkson married Ellice Moira Pilkington on 8 Jan 1921 at University Church,
Dublin.
3 Giles Ayler Hinkson moved to South America in the 1930’s. He was the Argentinian
correspondent for the Times and died in 1957.
10 Adelaide Georgina Hinkson born 15 Mar 1867 married William Longford of Clapham at Ballinatone
Church on 18 Sep 1890. William died 16 March 1933 in London, and Adelaide died in 1935.
1 William Ulic Desmond Longford born 22 Jun 1891 at Wandsworth. He was a physician and
died 18 Feb 1960 at Rainham and is remembered on the Hinkson headstone at Mount
Jerome.
