Charles Hayes, agent to The London Assurance Company for marine Insurance from 1820
with premises at the Commercial Buildings. He was operating from Rogerson’s Quay
with the Promoter Assurance Company from 1838. He lived at 40 Mount Street Lower
from 1835 to 1842 and at Anna Field, Dundrum from 1843 to 1844. He was a wine
merchant and a member of the Reform Registry Association. He was also the Swedish
and Norwegian consul with offices at 1 Rogerson’s Quay. He died on 24 Mar 1844 at
Annafield, Dundrum.
This is thought to be the same Charles Hayes that married Ellen Saunders on 8 Jul 1812 at
St Peters Church, Dublin. Charles was resident in Hunter Street, Brunswick Square, London
and Ellen was the second daughter of the late Edwin Saunders of Mountjoy Square. Elinor
died at Ivy Cottage, Parson’s Green in July 1813.
