Hart family of Waltersland
George Vaughan Hart eldest son of Andrew Searle Hart married Mary Elizabeth Hone 3rd daughter
of late Addison Hone of Rose Vale, Raheny on 10.09.1873 at Parish Church, Clontarf. The family lived
at Woodside, Howth. George Hart QC LLD was appointed Examiner of Titles to the Irish Land
Commission in 1892.
1 Ethel Vaughan Hart born circa 1875 married Anthony Brutus Babington eldest son of Hume
Babington of Londonderry on 05.09.1907 at Howth Parish Church.
1 Mary Hume Babington born 05.08.1908 at 18 Warrington Place.
2 Emerson Hume Babington born 17.01.1910 at 18 Warrington Place.
3 Ruth Babington born 20.10.1912 at 26 Herbert Place.
2 George Vaughan Hart eldest son born 31.08.1877 at Blessington Street. George married Maude
Frances Annette Curran 2nd daughter born circa 1881 of late Hon Mr Justice, Charles Ribton
Curran, Supreme Court of Jamaica on 13.08.1910 at Howth Parish Church. George drowned with
2 young sons while bathing near Carrablagh, Donegal on 08.09.1928 aged 51 years. Maude late of
Waltersland died on 30.07.1961 aged 80 years at the Adelaide Hospital, Dublin and is buried at
St Brigid’s, Stillorgan.
1 George Vaughan Hart born 09.09.1911 at Waltersland married Norah Marie Babington only
daughter of Major David Louis James Babington and Alice Marie McClintock and widow of his
brother Edward in 1949.
2 Frances Hilda Hart born 04.09.1912 at Waltersland.
3 Andrew Searle Hart 2nd son born 20.12.1913 at Waltersland drowned with his father and
brother in 1928.
4 John Beresford Hart 3rd son born 26.09.1915 at Waltersland drowned with his father and
brother in 1928.
5 Edward Chichester Hart youngest son born circa 1918 married Norah Marie Babington only
daughter of David Louis James Babington of 7 Neville Road, Rathgar circa 1940 in Oxfordshire.
Edward a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves was killed in action on
15.09.1943.
6 Anne Vaughan Hart born circa 1919 married Bertram James Richardson Barton youngest son
of late Captain Charles Robert Barton of The Waterfoot, Letter, Fermanagh on 14.05.1952 at
St Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan.
3 Norah Searle Hart born 03.10.1879 at Blessington Street married as his second wife, Albert A
Roberts on 10 Dec 1919 at Howth parish church. Albert was an Asst. Inspector General with the
RIC and a Special Crimes Officer and died in Devon in 1933.
4 Hilda Chichester Hart born 14.12.1882 at 14 Lower Pembroke Street married Geoffrey Surrtees
Phillpotts on 26.03.1910, Geoffrey was head brewer of Guinness's from 19345 until 1945. They
lived at Oakfield House, Brighton Road, Foxrock and had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Oakfield House
would become the Japanese residence and was demolished in 1995.
5 Tristram Beresford Hart born 06.03.1884 at 14 Lower Pembroke Street married the Hon Vivien,
eldest daughter of Lord & Lady Parker of Waddington at St Margaret's Westminister on
29.08.1915 and moved to Buckinghamshire.
6 William Hume Hart born 06.04.1885 at 14 Lower Pembroke Street. Captain Hart married
Marguerite Flora, daughter of Fitzadam Millar of Windsor, Monkstown on 11.02.1920 at Monkstown
Parish Church.
7 Ruth Hart born 20.12.1886 at 14 Lower Pembroke Street married Rt. Hon. Andrew Jameson of
Sutton House (now known as Sutton Castle in 1925, whilst on honeymoon in New York, their house
was partially damaged by fire. Andrew Jameson was a Senator of the Irish Free State and Chairman
of whiskey distillers John Jameson & Sons.
