Sackville Robert Hamilton born circa 1780 second son of the Rt Hon Sackville Hamilton, MP and Collector
of the Port of Cork and Arabella Berkeley, graduated Trinity College and took Holy orders. He married
Jane Freeman, eldest daughter of Edward Freeman of Castle Cor, Co Cork on 17 Apr 1807 at Cork. He
was appointed to the parishes of Kilbrin and Liscarrol in 1809. Incumbent of Mallow, he died
20 Feb 1853 at Vittoria near Mallow.
1 Sackville Deane Hamilton Sackville was baptised at the Parish Church of Kilbrin & Liscarrol,
Mallow on 3 Feb 1808 and was the grandson of Rt Hon Sackville Hamilton and Arabella Berkeley.
He married Eleanor Sankey on 26 Nov 1845 at St Peter’s Church. Sackville died 30 Jul 1878 and
Eleanor died 16 Jun 1876.
1 Sackville Berkley Hamilton born 26 Oct 1846 married Eva Mona Eleanor Benson,
daughter of Col Charles Annesley Benson at Monkstown Parish Church on 10 Jul 1880.
Witnesses; W A Riall & William Sankey. The family lived at Campfield in 1891/2 before
Sackville was transferred to Tralee. Sackville was an Asst Inspector RIC (retired) and
died 4 May 1913 at St John Church having suffered a heart attack. The family had been
staying at 15 Regent Terrace, Penzance, Cornwall since Christmas. Eva died 2 Jun 1926.
1 Sackville William Hamilton born 3 Nov 1882 at The Hermitage, Clonmel joined the
Royal Engineers in 1901 and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was
Superintendent of the Survey of India but returned to military service from 1914
to 1918. He was awarded the DSO and bar in 1916. He married Margaret Dowell,
(Peggy) Hester only daughter of S C Hestor of Thanet in 1920 in India. Sackville
died 11 May 1956 late of Bayard House, Upwey in Dorset.
2 Grace Arabella Hamilton born 14 Jul 1884 at The Hermitage, Clonmel married
Major Thomas Charles McCombie Young at the British India Office, Calcutta,
Bengal on 24 Jul 1915. Thomas was the only son of Rev Thomas Young of
Aberdeenshire and was Deputy Sanitary Commission of Assam, India.
3 Charles Sackville Hamilton born 4 Feb 1885 at The Hermitage, Clonmel. He joined
the Leinster Regiment and served with the Gold Coast Regiment. He married
Florence P Gibson in 1912. Charles died 1 Dec 1971 at Primrose Cottage,
Rockbourne in Hants.
2 Robert Sackville Deane Hamilton baptised 14 May 1809 went to Australia in 1836 and onwards to
California. He was supposed dead in 1865 having not been heard from since 1850.
3 Edward Deane Freeman Hamilton baptised 3 Feb 1810 at the Parish Church of Kilbrin & Liscarrol
moved to Australia, and was living at Colet Colet Station, in the District of Port Phillip, and Colony
of New South Wales, but was insolvent and moved to the Tala River, Murrumbidgee, NSW in 1847.
He died in San Francisco on 28 Jan 1878.
4 Henry Hamilton, youngest son baptised 28 Dec 1811 at the Parish Church of Kilbrin & Liscarrol
joined the 78th (Highlanders) Regiment of Foot and attained the rank of General. He married
Isabella Freeman, third daughter of Joseph Deane Freeman of Castle Cor on 15 Mar 1842 at St
Peter’s Church, Dublin. He died, a widower at his residence Grange Erin, Douglas in Cork on
25 Aug 1891.
1 Henry Claude Hamilton only son born 25 Jan 1850 married Henrietta Elmina Wise,
second daughter of James Lawrence Wise of The Grove, Collon Parish Church Collon,
Co Louth on 9 Mar 1880.
2 Arabella Deane Hamilton youngest daughter married Robert Hawkes Elllis of the 75th
Regiment at St Columba Church, Omagh on 23 Nov 1874.
5 Arabella Hamilton baptised 30 Sep 1813 at the Parish Church of Kilbrin & Liscarrol. She lived at
14 The Crescent, Monkstown. She died 7 Jul 1892 aged 78 at Leeson Street late of Campfield,
Dundrum and left 2K in person Estate, her nephew Sackville Berkley Hamilton was her executor.
