1 James Trail Hall born circa 1782 in County Down. He graduated Trinity in 1803 and was called to
the Irish Bar in 1805. He was a Kings Counsel, and assistant barrister of Cavan. He married
Ann Cockerall Moubray only child of late John Moubray of Calcutta on 15.08.1818 at St Georges,
Hanover Quay Square, Westminster. James of Mountjoy Square died on 21.11.1836 aged 53
years and is buried at St George’s in Dublin. Anne died on
02.08.1855 at St Alban’s, Monkstown.
1 Rev Francis Henry Hall born 23.08.1820 Dublin. BA Vern 1842, MA Vern 1846. James was
the incumbent at Drumcullin, County Down married Mary Letitia McCreight daughter of
Rev James McCreight on 27.03.1849 at Bangor, Newtownards. Mary died on 09.09.1857
aged 36 years at Carrick Glebe. Francis a Widower married secondly Louisa Armstrong
daughter of William Henry Armstrong of Dominick Street on 21.12.1861 at St Mary’s Church,
Dublin. Francis died 10.06.1881 aged 60 years at Hollymount.
2 Clara Jane Hall born circa 1822 died unmarried on 26.04.1886 aged 63 years at 2 The Hill,
Monkstown.
3 Henrietta Maria Hall born circa 1824 died unmarried on 06.02.1892 aged 68 years at 2 The

4 Lieut Col James Trail Hall born circa 1825 BA Vern 1847 married Isabella Ann Keating nee
Owen daughter of Rev Robert Jones Owen on 17.05.1877 at the Parish Church, St James’s,
Westminster. James died in Farnham aged 70 years in 1896 and Isabella died on 25.07.1907
at 1 East Parade, Hastings.

5 Major General Thomas Erskine Arthur Hall 3rd son born 13.01.1826 married Lady Margaretta
Louisa Stewart daughter of Charles Andrew Knox Stewart the 4th Earl Castle Stewart on
28.12.1865 at Ardboe Church, Tyrone. Thomas died on 09.02.1901 aged 75 years late of the
Grange, Wendover, Buckingham.
6 Frances Florence Hall youngest daughter born 07.06.1829 died on 22.11.1859 at St Alban’s,
Monkstown.
7 Henry Augustus Hall 4th son born circa 1832 died on 28.07.1844 aged 12 years at Monkstown
and is buried at St George’s, Dublin.
8 William Edward Hall 5th son born circa 1833 and died on 19.05.1844 aged 10½ years at St
Alban’s, Monkstown and is buried at St George’s, Dublin.
2 Henry Hall born 11.09.1789 entered the Bengal Infantry in 1804 and saw much service. He
married Sara Fagan daughter of Major General Christopher Fagan on 03.10.1827 at Nasirabad,
India. He became successively commissioner, superintendent and the Governor of Mairwarra and
retired in 1836. He purchased the lease on Merville in 1840. Sara died in Paris on 17.03.1847.
Henry purchased lands in Athenry, Galway circa 1852 where he built Knockbrack Lodge. He moved
to Knockbrack in 1855 and was appointed a JP. General Henry hall, CB, JP died 22.08.1875 at
Merville formerly of Athenry and is buried at Deansgrange. He left 18K in personal estate and
probate was granted to Rev MacNevin Bradshaw, his daughter Mrs Elizabeth Bradshaw, and Rev
Francis Hall. His left £100 to the Presbyterian missionaries to aid the building of a church at
Mairvarra, £200 was to be spent on water fountains for the city of Dublin to 'encourage sobriety'.
One of these survives today and is known as the Five Lamps. He left the Merville estate to his
daughter Elizabeth and his estates in Kilbeggan, Westmeath were left to his grandson Henry
Thomas Hall for when he attained the age of 21. One half of the residue was left to his daughter
Elizabeth and the other half was to be divided between the four children of his late son Henry.
1 Eliza Margaret Hall eldest daughter born 03.06.1830 at Nasirabad in Bengal married Rev
Macnevin Bradshaw on 30.01.1855 at Taney Church. MacNevin was the eldest son of the
late Robert Scott Bradshaw, barrister of Kilclony.
2 Henry Edward Hall born 19.09.1831 entered the army in 1853. He was an officer in the
13th Light Infantry, fought in the Crimean War. On a voyage to India he met Annie Moore
and her mother. He married Annie Moore only child of Colonel Thomas Moore of the
Bengal Army on 23.11.1858 at St George’s Church, Hanover Square. Henry died on
16.02.1869 aged 37 years at Merrion Square, Dublin and is buried at Deansgrange.
1 Henry Thomas Hall born 30 Sep 1859 inherited the the Kilbeggan estate at
Westmeath from his grandfather.
2 Charles Henry Edward Hall born 16 Nov 1861 at Torquay.
2 Annie Isabella Clara Hall born 10 May 1863 at Merville, Booterstown.
3 Arthur Francis Hall born 1 Dec 1864. He married Louisa Jane (Louie) Lopdell on
28 Nov 1889 at St Ann's Church, Dublin. Arthur died died 2 Jun 1896 at a private
hospital on Mespil Rosd late of Athenry.
3 Christopher James Trail Hall younger son born 1837 died 26.11.1854 aged 17 years in Paris,
France.
4 Annie June Hall died 10 Aug 1867 aged 28 at Merville and was buried at Deansgrange.

Francis was living at Brighton, England and Merville, Dublin and died on 26.12.1855 aged 61 years at
Brighton.
1 Julia Palmer Hall eldest daughter baptised on 25.03.1820 in Calcutta married Thomas Lloyd son
of Thomas Lloyd of Beechmount on 10.07.1838 at the British Embassy Chapel, Paris. Julia died on
29.09.1901 aged 81 years at Boscombe.
2 Rev Henry Francis Udney Hall baptised on 14.03.1822 in Calcutta was the Vicar of St Mary’s
Church in Dachet.
3 Anna Maria Christian Hall baptised on 14.12.1823 in Calcutta.
4 Frances Erskine Hall youngest daughter married Rev Robert Augustus Maunsell youngest son of
Venerable Archdeacon of Limerick on 30.10.1851 at the Parish Church, Clifton. The ceremony was
performed by the brother of the bride Rev Henry F Hall.
4 Margaret Hall died 27.07.1842 at Melfield, Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock. She left numerous bequests
to charity.
