James Groves son of Rev John Groves, curate of Aughnagloy, Co Tyrone. His father died
in 1831 and he married Sara Speer. Sara was the daughter of William Frederick Speer,
MD of Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone and his wife Ursilla McKinstry. James was principal of the
Cathedral school at Vicar’s Hill, Armagh and died 24 Oct 1847. Sarah's mother died in 1850.
rsilla her sister lived with her, died in 1875 and was interred in Rostrevor. Her brother
William died in New York in 1878. Sarah died 26 Feb 1880 at Ovoca Terrace, Rostrevor.
Her daughter Lilla the informant.
1 John Gisborne Groves eldest son born circa 1834 died 27 Feb 1890 at New York.
2 Sara Elizabeth Groves second daughter born circa 1839 in Armagh. She married
widower John Hamilton of Pembroke Road, Dublin on 25 April 1867 at St Anne’s,
Belfast. John was a solicitor of Annefield, Dundrum and the son of Gustavus and
Catherine Hamilton. They lived at Annefield, Dundrum and John died there on
25 Nov 1879. He was buried with his parents at Mount Jerome. Sara died
17 Oct 1911 at Rokeby, Howth and was buried at St Fintan’s, Howth.
1 Sara Adelaide Olivia (Olivia) Hamilton born 3 Feb 1875 at Annefield was
baptised at Taney Church. She was living with her mother in Howth in
1911. She died a spinster on 20 Oct 1958 at 12 Booterstown Avenue and
was buried at St Fintan’s, Howth.
3 Urcilla Mary Grace (Lilla) Groves born circa 1845 in Armagh lived with her sister at
Annefield and died a spinster at Annefield (2 Kilmacud Road) on 5 Aug 1909 aged
64. She left 8K in personal estate and her nephew by marriage, Everard Hamilton,
a solicitor was her executor.
