Gresson of Glencairn House and Roebuck Hall
Reverend George Leslie Gresson, born circa 1769 was the son of William Gresson and Margaret
Leslie. He graduated from Trinity and married Clarissa Reynell in 1798. He was Rector of
Ardnorcher. His brother Skelton Gresson born circa 1780 graduated Trinity college and took Holy
orders and was a JP for Clara, Kings County. Clarissa died in 1816.
1 William Reynell Gresson born circa 1799 took Holy orders and was Rector of Burrisnafarney,
County Tipperary. He married Frances Holmes in January 1823. William died at Rosborough,
Nass, the residence of his son William, on 22 Aug 1873.
1 Susan Frances Gresson, only daughter born 4 Dec 1826 at Clonea Glebe, Co Clare,
died August 1838 at Larch Vale, Kings County.
2 George Reynell Gresson, eldest son born October 1828 at Larchfield joined the 27th
Inniskillings married Maria Isabella Stuart daughter of Captain Alexander Stuart at
Dungannon on 5 Sep 1854. George retired from the army in 1857. By 1881 they were
living at Clonsilla Park. George died 3 Nov 1886 at Clonsilla Park and left 4K in personal
estate. Isabella moved to Ballawley Park by 1888 and the family were at Roebuck Hall by
1897. They moved to Beaulieu in 1906 and Maria died there on 10 Oct 1921 and was
buried at Terminfeckin.

2 Clara F H Gresson second daughter born 5 Jan 1858 at Dungannon died a spinster
on 21 Feb 1917 at Queensborough, Drogheda and was buried at Terminfeckin.
3 Daughter Gresson born 16 Feb 1859 at Dungannon.
4 William Arbuthnot Gresson born circa 1860 was a Major in the Kildare Militia. He
married Charlotte Louisa Brush at St John's, Newcastle, Co Down on 14 Jul 1897.
5 Alexander Stuart Gresson born 23 Nov 1861 was with the Canadian Railway Service
Guard and died 24 Mar 1920 in Canada. His estate was divided between his ten
sisters and brother William.
6 Daughter Gresson for 25 Sep 1863 at Stonebrook Lodge, Co Kildare.
7 Agnes Emily Gresson born 5 Jul 1865 at Stonebrook Lodge died 9 Jun 1954 and was
buried at Termonfeckin, County Louth.
8 Frances Anne Gresson born 15 Aug 1866 at Stonebrook Lodge died 8 Mar 1947 and
was buried at Termonfeckin.
9 Selina Blanche Gresson born 23 Nov 1867 at Stonebrook Lodge died 2 Apr 1944 and
was buried at Terminfeckin.
10 Robert Evans Gresson, youngest son 11 Jan 1869 at Stonebrook Lodge, Ballymore
Eustace died at Durban on 23 Dec 1898.
11 Florence Edith Gressan born 6 Dec 1870 at Stonebrook, Co Kildare married Jacob
Cornelius Groenewegen on 12 Sep 1914 Jacob was a planter. Florence died at 49 Moyle
Road, Rathmines on 12 Feb 1959.
12 Adelaide Mabel (Mabel) Gresson born 4 Feb 1872 at Stonebrook, Co Kiladare married
Francis Crumpe Fitzmaurice at SS Philip & James Booterstown on 7 Oct 1905.
13 Rose Violet Gresson (Florence Rose) born 29 Apr 1875 at Stonebrook, Co Kildare
married the Rev Walter Henry Townsend Gahon on 10 Jul 1906 at St Brigid's Castleknock.
14 Susan Holmes Gresson born circa 1879 married Captain George Hamilton Adams on
18 Feb 1919 at Boileau Church.
15 Maud Violet Gresson (Violet Maud) youngest daughter born 21 Jul 1880 at Stonebrook,
Co Kildare married the Rev Donald McWatty Hamilton on 15 Oct 1906 at St Bridget's,
Castleknock.
3 William Henry Gresson attained the rank of major with the 65th Regiment and married
Mary Fleming the eldest daughter of Thomas Tinning of Tinwald House, Dunfriesshire
on 9 Aug 1866 a Castle Milk, Dunfriesshire.
2 Chapman Gresson born circa 1801.
3 George Gresson born circa 1803, solicitor of 30 upper Merrion Street and Church warden of
St Peter's in 1846. He built Glencairne and died a bachelor late of Glencairn at 10 South Frederick
Street on 3 Nov 1876. He left 8K in personal estate.

5 Henry Barnes Gresson born 31 Jan 1809 in Co Meath was a barrister of 26 Gardiner's Place
married Ann Beatty, daughter of Andrew Beatty of Derry on 14 Aug 1845 in Convoy Church.
The family immigrated to New Zealand in 1854 and Henry was appointed Crown Prosecutor in
1857 for the South Island. Ann died 11 Jun 1889 at Wood and Henry died 31 Jan 1901 and
was buried with his wife at St Barnabas Church in Christchurch.
1 Nina Henrietta Gresson born circa 1847 died 1918.
2 John Gresson born circa 1848 married 1875 died in a1891.

7 Richard Gresson born 1813 died a bachelor in May 1838.
8 Robert Christmas Gresson fifth son, born circa 1817 was a solicitor of 72 Aungier Street. He
married Elizabeth Hopper daughter of Edward Hopper, of Beddenden on 2 May 1853 at St
Botolph's, Aldgate, London.
9 Eleanor Gresson born circa 1819.
Rev George Leslie Gresson secondly married Mary Anne Turpin in 1826. In 1841 an attempt was made
on George's life as he drove from Clara to Kilbeggan. George died 29 Dec 1842 at Ardnorcher House,
near Kilneggan and Mary Anne died 13 Sep 1844 at Dalkey.
