Thomas Goff born circa 1850 married Mary Jane Simmons at Wexford Roman Catholic Church on
9 Jul 1871. Thomas was a servant residing at Wexford as was Mary. Thomas was the son of John
Goff, a miller and Mary was the daughter of Mr Simmons, a farmer. Thomas worked for Francis
Low of Avonmore as a gardener from 1877 to 1883 and for James McCann, stockbroker and
politician at Simmonscourt Castle from 1885. Thomas and Mary Jane had seven children of whom
six survived in 1911. Walter their son died aged 7 on 19 Jan 1881 following a tragic accident whilst
skating on a pond and a gentleman fell on top of him. Thomas died at the lodge of Simmonscourt
Castle on 9 Feb 1928 and is buried at Deansgrange. Mary Jane died at The Crescent, Donnybrook
on 28 Feb 1929 and is buried at Deansgrange.
1 Walter Goff born at 28 Jun 1873 Seaview Avenue, Donnybrook died 19 Jan 1881 at
Avonmore and is buried at Deansgrange.
2 John Goff born 27 Feb 1872 at 69 Morehampton Road. John was a clerk in the GPO and
married Frances Lennon 3 Jun 1897 at Donnybrook RC Church. Frances was the daughter
of Joseph Lennon, a steward living at the RDS in Ballsbridge. They were living in
Sandymount in 1901. Frances died in 1954 and is buried in Deansgrange. John died in
1958 and is buried with his wife. No issue found.
3 Anne Eliza Goff born 27 Jun 1875 at St Anne’s Lodge, Donnybrook married Peter Paul
O’Reilly, a policeman on 17 Feb 1899 at Donnybrook R C Church.
4 Thomas Goff born 13 Aug 1877 at Avonmore, Stillorgan. He was a bookkeeper at
McCanns Stockbrokers when he married Catherine (Kate) Murray on 25 Apr 1900 at
Ballivor, Co Meath. They were living at Herbert Avenue in 1901. By 1911 all four of their
children had survived and Thomas Joseph was working as a financial journalist. In 1926
Thoamas was working for himself as an accountant and Income tax recovery agent. He
was captain of the Donore Harriers in 1929/30. Catherine died at St Vincent's, Fairview
on the 17 Mar 1952 aged 77 and is buried at Deansgrange. Thomas a retired accountant
died at 25 Herbert Avenue on 18 Jan 1955. His funeral mass was held at Our Lady,
Queen of Peace Church in Merrion and he is buried with his wife.
1 Mary Josephine (May) Goff born 3 Apr 1901 at 7 Herbert Avenue. May married
William ( Bill) O’Toole in 1931 and they lived all of their lives on Tivoli Terrace Dun
Laoghaire. They had two daughters and a son.
2 Thomas Christopher Stephen Goff born 25 Dec 1902 at 5 Gibson's Terrace, Merrion.
He took part in the Tailteann games in 1924. He was a managing clerk resident at
264 Merrion Road when he married Eileen Murphy on 26 Oct 1927 at St Kevin's
Church, Harrington Street. Eileen was living at Harcourt Road and was the daughter
of Thomas Murphy, a shopkeeper. Thomas and Eileen had two sons and one
daughter.
2 William John Goff born 4 Oct 1905 at 5 Gibson's Terrace, Merrion. He was a clerk
resident at 264 Merrion Road when he married Mabel Irene Dalton on 28 Sep 1932
at Drumcondra Church. Mabel was living at Botanic Avenue and was the daughter
of Peter Dalton, a retired RIC Sergeant who took up a lucrative position in Dublin
Castle on the Prisons board. William ( Billy) was a well known cross county runner
with the Donore Harriers. Billy spent most of his life working in Davy Stockbrokers.
He was a talented artist but spent most of his time in his garden and also in the
gardens of his daughters. He must have inherited his grandfathers interest in
gardening. William and Mabel had two daughters. William was a well known
cross county runner with the Donore Harriers.
3 Walter Louis Goff born 19 Aug 1908 at 5 Gibson's Terrace, Merrion. He was an
income tax account resident at 264 Merrion Road when he married Elizabeth
Caulfield at St John the Baptist Church, Blackrock on 6 Apr 1932. Elizabeth was the
daughter of James Caulfield. They were living in Crofton Road, Dun Laoghaire in
1955 and Walter was a cross county runner. Walter and Bessie had two daughters
and one son. Their younger daughter Marie died in 1955 aged 18 from leukaemia
and is buried at Deansgrange.
4 Catherine Mary Teresa born 25 May 1914 at 264 Merrion Road. She was a typist
living at 25 Herbert Avenue and married Patrick J Elliott at Donnybrook RC Church
on 30 Aug 1944. Patrick was a shopkeeper of Percy Place and the son of Patrick
Elliott, a farmer. Kathleen and Paddy had two sons and two daughters.
5 Catherine Mary (Kate) Goff born 16 Jan 1880 at Avonmore, Stillorgan was working as a
book seller in 1901. She married William Kiberd, a shop keeper on 30 Jun 1907 at
Donnybrook RC Church. William was a shopkeeper resident at 73 Great Britain Street
and the son of William Kiberd, a shop keeper. They lived at South William Street and their
children were mainly born at the Rotunda Hospital.

6 Mary Jane Goff born 11 Jun 1883 at Avonmore, Stillorgan was a seamstress in 1901 and
a dressmaker living with her parents in 1911. She married Joseph McGrane at Donnybrook
RC Church on 29 Jul 1929. Joseph was a groom working at Ellefield, Merrion Road and the
son of Edward McGrane, a railway guard. Joseph was from Drogheda and of a similar age.
7 Margaret Goff born 26 Oct 1885 at Simmonscourt Castle gate lodge, thought to be a witness
at her sister's marriage in 1907.
