Malcomson of Belfort, Newtown Park and Portlaw
George Pim Malcomson born 22 Jul 1832 son of Joseph Malcomson and Charlotte Pim.
He married Emilie Usher Roberts, widow of Arthur Usher Roberts and daughter of John
Nugent Fraser at All Saints Church, Clapham, Surrey on 29 Aug 1866. Emilie had a son
(Edward Usher Roberts) by her first marriage who lived with them. They lived at
Wood-loch, Portlaw, Co Waterford and George had a steam yacht called Coquette. The
Malcolmson's businesses started to fail in the 1860s, caused by the American Civil War
and the collapse of the Overend Gurney bank in 1866. The business was liquidated in
1876 and the mill closed with the loss of over 1000 jobs. They continued to live at
Woodlock and leased Belfort on Newtownpark Avenue from 1891 to 1892. George died
on 25 Sep 1905 at the International Hotel in Bray, Co Wicklow aged 74 years. He left 11K
in personal estate and probate was granted to his wife. Emilie died at 68 Merrion Square
South on 11 Nov 1908 aged 64.
1 Mary Fraser Malcomson eldest daughter born 17 Dec 1867 at Clodiagh married
John Thomas Medlycott of Rocketts Castle, Co Waterford on 18 Nov 1896 at
Clonegan Church. John was the son of the late John Thomas Medlycott. They
lived at Rocketts Castle and five of their six children survived in 1911.

2 Emilie Maud Malcomson second daughter born 8 May 1870 at Woodlock married
Rev Arthur H Trevor Benson at Monkstown Church on 26 Oct 1892. Arthur was the
son of the late George Francis Benson of Primrose Hill, Ballina, Co Mayo.
3 George Fraser Malcomson eldest son born 7 Oct 1872 was master of the Waterford
Hounds from 1900. He married Mary Georgina (May) Millar on 21 April 1897 at
Monkstown parish church. May was the daughter of Judge Fitzadam Millar of
Windsor in Monkstown. The moved to Mount Bolton, Portlaw from Mayfield in
1906 and had four children of whom all had survived in 1911. Mount Bolton was
on 218 acres with a commodious dwelling house and had kennels. George enlisted
in WW1 and was assigned to the Horse Transport Section. He died 12 Jan 1934 at
Rocketts Castle, the residence of his sister. He was buried at Guilcagh churchyard
and was survived by two sons and two daughters.

4 Charlotte Frazer Malcomson youngest daughter born 15 Dec 1874 at Woodlock.
She married Hubert Victor McClintock on 19 Feb 1902 at Clonegan Church. Hubert
was the fourth son the late Colonel George Parry McClintock, DL of Seskinore, Co
Tyrone. Charlotte was a widow by 1911 and two of their three children had
survived.

5 John Fraser Malcomson born 15 Nov 1876 at Woodlock living at a hotel in Fethard
in 1901. He married Susan Florence Brennan in Anglesey in 1902. Susan was the
niece of Susan Stokes a hotel proprietress in Fethard. Susan applied for a divorce
in 1906.
6 Hugh Malcomson second youngest son born 25 Jan 1879 at Tenby, Wales. He was
living at Loughlinstown, Priestown, Co Meath and married Muriel Georgina (Babs)
Briscoe on 23 July 1907 St Stephen’s Church. Babs was the daughter of Gustavus
Villiers Briscoe of Ballinteer, Co Meath. Hugh enlisted and was a driver with the
French Red Cross during WW1. He was killed in action on 14 Apr 1918 at Plessier,
Somme, France and left 10K in personal estate. He was awarded the Croix de
Guerre.
1 Emilie Malcomson elder daughter born circa 1909 in Co Meath married
Christopher Whitehead of Auburn of Greystones 22 April 1927 at Booterstown
Parish Church. Christopher was a doctor and the son of Christopher
Whitehead of Nenagh.
2 Eileen Amena Malcomson married Randal Stephen Lanigan O’Keefe in 1935.
Randal was the eldest son of the late Dr Arthur Lanigan O’Keefe.
3 George Villiers Malcomson born circa 1911 in Co Meath.
7 Keith Fraser Malcomson born 27 Jun 1881 at Woodlock. He formed the Portlaw
Cricket Club in 1902. He was a race horse breeder and lived at Longnoor,
Pembroke Park, Donnybrook and died a bachelor 15 Feb 1926 at 5 Fitzwilliam
Square. He left 29K in personal estate.
