Robert Geoghegan of Dublin married Mary Daniell daughter of J B Daniell of Carrickmacross,
Monaghan at Killaney Church on 19 Sep 1833. Robert Geoghegan joined Richard and Robert
Manders as a partner, they dissolved Manders & Powell Brewers and traded as Robert Manders
and Company from 1831. Mary died at St James, Monkstown on 6 Jul 1854 and Robert
moved to Carysfort Lodge. The family were there until 1888.
1 Charlotte Geoghegan born circa 1835 died a spinster at 5 Waltham Tce., Blackrock on
27 Jan 1891.
2 Margaret Geoghegan, second daughter, born circa 1836 married John Reilly, Lieut. 8th
Hussars at Stillorgan Church on 3 Sep 1856. After John died, Margaret moved back to
Carysfort Lodge with her father. She died 18 Dec 1890 at 5 Waltham Tce, the home of
her sister Charlotte.
3 Stannus Geoghegan, eldest son, born 2 Dec 1839 was a merchant and brewer. He married
Jane, the youngest daughter of the late Henry Downs of Alderly, Glenageary on 25 Apr 1865
at Monkstown Church. He moved to Floriana in Malta in the 1880s and set up with Antonio
Despott of Cospicua in 1895 as brewers of stout and ale under the name of Despott,
Geoghegan & Co as brewers of stout and ale by deed in the records of Notary Achille Micallef
of the 15 Mar 1885. Stannus died at sea age 70 on 5 Jul 1909. Jane died at Malta
24 Feb 1924. Stannus was Church warden of St Paul's Glenageary in1877.
1 Stannus Geoghegan born 18 Feb 1866 at Villa Nuova, Glenageary. He married Norah
Louisa daughter of the Rev Charles Greenway, JP. Lt Col Stannus Geoghegan, CB., IA.,
eldest son of Stannus Geoghegan of Sliema, Malta and of Nurney, Glenageary, Co Dublin,
and grandson of Robert Geoghegan of Robert Geoghegan of Carysfort Lodge was
granted a confirmation of arms on 28 May 1921. Brigadier Stannus Geoghegan had a
long distinguished military career followed by a retirement devoted to writing military
history. He died is 1829.
1 Stannus Geoghegan, eldest son, born 1898, 2nd Lieutenant serving with the Argyll
Sutherland Highlanders was killed in action at Passchendaele in 1918. There is a
memorial plaque at St Johns Porch in Boscombe, Dorset.

2 Herbert Lyne Geoghegan, fleet surgeon was educated at Neuwied, Germany, Queen’s
College Galway and Trinity College Dublin (BA, MD). Translator of the German Book
‘Bacteria’ by Dr Max Schottelius. He married in 1909 Isabella Anne (Ella) Pickthorn
daughter of the late Inspector General T Russell Pickthorn. Herbert went down on HMS
Black Prince with all the crew of 857 at Jutland in May 1916.
3 Ernest George Geoghegan born circa 1869 died 1935 in Malta.
4 Ethel L born circa 1873 died 28 Dec 1881 age 8 at Glenageary and was buried at
Deansgrange.
4 Henry Grant Geoghegan second son born circa 1841 married Louisa Mary daughter of Joseph
McKinnel of Higher Broughton, Manchester at St Johns, Broughton on 29 Apr 1869. He was a
county registrar in Wexford and lived at Still Lane. They had 9 children, only 6 still living in
1911. Henry died in 22 Dec 1912 at Farnogue Tce and Louisa died in 1913 at 2 Farnogue
Tce age 67.

Dempster Findlater only child of Alexander Findlater of The Slopes, Kingstown at the
Presbyterian church in Kingstown 15 Nov 1866. Jessie died at Grassmeer, The
Avenue, Beckenham in Kent on 17 Dec 1895 and Robert died 23 Dec 1897 at Spring
House, Kingston Road, Merton, Surrey age 54.
6 William Geoghegan, youngest son born 23 Jul 1846 was a Surgeon Major in the British
army and died from TB at Malta 17 Aug 1882 whilst on leave to improve his health.
He was buried at Ta' Braxia Cemetery Pieta with military honours.
7 Mary Geoghegan born circa 1847 died 28 Oct 1875.
Robert secondly married Anne Manders nee Manders widow of his business partner Robert
Manders of Merrion Square on 7 Sep 1855 at Monkstown Church. Annie died at Carysfort
Lodge on 26 Nov 1861.
In 1883 Manders Brewery was declared bankrupt and it was purchased by Charles Brennan of The
Phoenix Brewery, he also purchased their malt houses at Portarlington, Athy, Mountrath, Skerries
and Sallins. Robert late of Carysfort Lodge died at the home of his daughter Charlotte on
28 Feb 1884 age 76. He was buried at Mount Jerone with his first wife and his three sisters; Agnes
died 7 Jan 1861 age 61, Ann died 12 Nov 1884 age 80 and Margaret died 15 Mar 1889 age 74.
