James Gall son of James Gall, a yeoman of Damastown married Mary Ann Wilson at Clonsilla
on the 20 Nov 1850. James was a farmer and Mary was the daughter of John Wilson from
Rooske. Her parentage came under question some years after her marriage on the death
of Captain John Wilson in 1855 who left over 100K in estate. It was put forward that John
Wilson had a secret marriage with Sydney Boothe (sister of Lady Avonmore who married
Barry John Yeverton) and was the father of three children including Mary Anne, her brother
Charles who took over charge of his father estate on his death. It was counterclaimed that
they were illegitimate and that the estate should go to the Crown. James died on 5 Oct 1867
at Damastown and was buried at St Mary’s Clonsilla. The family moved to Dunstaffnage in
Stillorgan. Mary Ann died 26 May 1869 at Dunstaffnage. Her unmarried sister in law
Catherine Mary Gall was also living at Dunstaffnage and became guardian to their children.
They continued to live at Dunstaffnage and they moved to 1 Palmerston Road, Rathgar in 1875.
Charlotte died 30 Mar 1919 at Jerpoint, Sandycove age 91.
1 John Richard Wilson Gall eldest born circa 1858. As eldest surviving son he died
4 Nov 1883 at 1 Palmerston Road and was buried at Clonsilla. He left 3K in personal
estate.
2 Rosetta Gall married Robert Ross Smith on 19 Feb 1884 at Holy Trinity Church. Robert
was a clerk and the son of Edward Smith, an accountant.
3 James Charles Gall born 15 Jan 1864 at Damastown lived at 51 Rathgar Road and
married Charlotte Taylor on 9 Mar 1898 at St Peter’s Dublin. Charlotte was a widow
and the daughter of John Owens. They were living at Rathgar Road in 1901 and his
aunt Charlotte was living with them. James Gall died 22 Jan 1935 at Jerpoint, Sandycove.
4 Catherine Mary Gall born circa 1862 in Co Dublin married Trevor Nathaniel Smith on
25 Sep 1885 at Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines. Trevor was a clerk and the son of Edward
Smith, an accountant. Trevor became and doctor and was a member of the admission
committee to the Stillorgan Convalescent Home. They had three children and were living
in Fitzwilliam Street in 1911. In 1923 they were living at Jerpoint in Sandyford when their
maid was kidnapped from the house and found gagged in a field. Catherine died
12 Apr 1947 at Jerpoint, Dalkey. Trevor died at St Patricks Hospital late of Jerpoint, Dalkey
on 7 Nov 1947 aged 88.
5 Elizabeth Gall married Edward Iles Smith 20 Mar 1884 at Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines.
Edward was a bank clerk and the son of Edward Smith, an accountant. They had no
children and were living in Montrose Terrace in Rathmines in 1911.
6 Louisa Sophia (Louie) Gall third daughter born circa 1865 married William Bayly Evans on
23 Feb 1882. William was a commercial traveller and the son of Thomas Evans, secretary to
the Irish Church Missions. William died 18 Jan 1901 aged 39 at 44 Rathgar road, Louisa
was a widow living with her four children at Rathgar in 1901. Louisa died 23 Jun 1934 at
Rathgar Road. Her daughter Mignon Ida Boyd the informant.
