Oliver Fry born 19 Jun 1773 at Frybrook, near Boyle, Co Roscommon third son of Henry Fry and
his second wife Catherine Mills. He was educated at Trinity but never graduated and returned
to Roscommon. Oliver joined the Royal Artillery in 1794 and attained the rank of Captain in 1805.
He married Mary Phibbs on 19 Sep 1806 (date of registered deed). Mary was the second
daughter of William Harloe Phibbs and Susan Lloyd. Oliver was barracks master at Athlone and
was transferred to Galway when Athlone Barracks was transferred to Ordnance in 1833. He was
posted to Limerick in 1839 and by 1844 had 13 barracks and 3 hospitals occupied by military
under his command. He retired in 1848 and moved to Harcourt Terrace, Dublin in 1849. They
lived at Laurel Hill from 1850 to 1854 and Pembroke House from 1855 to 1868. He was promoted
major (retired) in 1854. Mary died at Pembroke House on 6 Jan 1860 and was buried at Mount
Jerome. Oliver died at Pembroke House on 30 Apr 1868 and was buried with his wife.
1 Henry Phibbs Fry eldest son born 26.09.1807 at Springfield, Sligo. He took Holy
orders and was the Rector at St George's, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. He died on
11.01.1874 aged 66 years at St Catharine’s, Oxford.
2 Susanna Fry born 18.03.1809 and died 04.06.1809.
3 William Fry born 13.07.1810 and died 31.07.1810.
4 Mary Fry eldest daughter born 13.01.1812. She married Robert Adams on 16 Jun 1836 at
St Nicholas’ Church of Ireland, Galway and immediately afterwards by Rev P Daly, pp.
Robert was the only son of Richard Adams of Newcastle Lodge. Mary died 05.02.1893.
5 Eliza Fry born 10.04.1813 and died a spinster on 6 Apr1873 at 12 Mulgrave Terrace,
Kingstown, her brother William present at death.
6 Katherine Fry born 07.04.1814 married Rev Alexander Digby Campbell of Mountjoy
Square in 1837 in Galway. Catherine died on 24.02.1895 aged 80 years at 12 Reginald
Terrace, Leeds.
7 Oliver Fry born 12.06.1815 and died 20.07.1815.
8 Susanna Fry born 03.12.1817 and died 05.05.1821.
9 Oliver Fry born 21.05.1819 received the appointment of commissioner of crown lands in
New South Wales in 1842 on a salary of £400pa. As second son he married Teresa Wilson
in 1854 at Sydney. Teresa was the second daughter of W Wilson of Lismore, Richmond
River. Oliver died at Sydney on 11 Dec 1859 late of the Clarence River, in the Colony of
New South Wales.

11 William Harlow Phibbs Fry born 16.02.1822 in Athlone was admitted to the Bar in 1847.
He married Elizabeth White on 18.08.1848 at Ballycahane Church. Bessie was the daughter
of Richard White of Abbeyville in Limerick. William was a solicitor and founder of William
Fry & Son. One of the most famous cases he was involved in was the Bagot v Bagot
probate case. He was at one time president of the YMCA and treasurer to both the Old Men's
Asylum and the Adelaide Hospital. He died on 12.01.1906 at aged 83 years at 13 Lower
Mount Street. Bessie died at Rosetta, Kingstown on 25 Jun 1906.

youngest daughter of Timothy O’Brien of Ailesbury House on 05.07.1877 at Ailesbury
House. Oliver died on 22.11.1926 aged 76 years and Emma died on 10.05.1927 aged
80 years both at Altadore, Avoca Avenue, Blackrock.

12 Georgina Ewing Fry born 27.04.1823 baptised at St George’s Church, Dublin married Rev
John Garrett of Hull on 02.10.1846 at the Church of St Nicholas, Galway. Georgina died
aged 69 years in 1892.
13 Anne Stewart Fry born 08.06.1830 and died 14.06.1830.
