Edward Flood of Castletown.
1 Edward Flood son of Edward Flood of Castletown born circa 1791. Edward married Catherine
O’Driscoll in 1811. Catherine was the daughter of Timothy Driscoll, Harcourt Street. She died
17 Jun 1848.
1 Luke Flood, eldest born circa 1819. As eldest son he died at Sloane Square, London
on 6 May 1851.
2 Edward Flood second son of Edward Flood of Castletown. He was with the 18th Regt,
Queen’s County and married Adelaide Jane Maddock on 23 Feb 1847 at Gretna
Green. Adelaide was the daughter of John Maddock of the HM Rodney. A second
marriage ceremony took place at Christ Church, Marylebone, Middlesex on
16 Mar 1847. They emigrated to America circa 1860.
3 William Flood third son of Edward Flood of Castletown and Middlemount born circa
1822. He married Jane Hayward at St Georges Church Dublin on 28 Apr 1860. Jane
was the eldest daughter of John Hayward of Island House, Shropshire and
Pembrynseient Castle in Carnarvon. William, a widower secondly married Louisa
Letitia O’Kelly on 2 Apr 1862 at St George’s Church, Dublin. Louisa was the daughter
of Francis O'Kelly, of Balla Castle, Co Galway and the niece of Lord Clanmorris. William
was living at Belgrave Terrace, Rathmines in 1863. He died a widower on 2 Jul 1897.
4 Robert Flood son of Edward Flood of Castletown died a bachelor in Brisbane in
1863.
5 Frances Howard Flood eldest daughter married Sewell Maillard Stubber in July 1844
at St Andrew's Church Dublin. Sewell used the name John Parnell to marry a second
time and was convicted of bigamy in 1864. She was executor to her brother William
in 1897.
6 Oliver Flood son of Edward Flood of Castletown born circa 1833 married Maria
Louisa Maddocks on 20 Jul 1852 at the Church of Ireland Mountmellick. Maria
was the youngest daughter of John Maddocks, paymaster of the Royal Navy,
Portsmouth. Maria died at Hardwicke Street on 12 Mar 1885 aged 55 and Oliver
died at Rathmines in 1895. Both were buried at Mount Jerome.

4 Jessie Beatrice Flood youngest daughter married Llewellyn John Handcock
at St George’s Hardwick Place on 18 Nov 1886. Llewellyn, a clerk was the third
son of John Elias Handcock of Rathmines. Llewellyn died in 1890 and Jessie
secondly married Edward William Carr in 1893.
7 Anna Maria Flood daughter of Edward Flood of Middlemount died in January 1840.
8 Caroline Henrietta Flood fourth daughter married Andrew Morris of Rathdown at
Booterstown Church on 4 Feb 1851. Caroline was resident at Peafield Terrace and
Andrew was the son of Thomas Morris. Caroline youngest daughter died 16 Aug 1855.
Edward secondly married Anne Bredin on 1 May 1849 in Dublin. He was a captain and was living
at Badger's Hill in 1847 and later at Middlemount. Edward died 4 Jun 1868 and Ann died at
Kensington Lodge, Borris, Carlow on 12 Mar 1892 aged 63.
9 Selina Flood born 7 Jul 1850 at Castletown died at Rathmines on 24 Apr 1868.
10 Luke Bredin Flood youngest son born June 1851 married Alice Emily Whitney in
1875 and emigrated to America.
1 Edward Oliver Flood was born 29 Jul 1876 at Abbeyleix, Co Kilkenny.
2 Frances Flood born circa 1801 married Sewell Mailard in 1822.
3 William Flood born circa 1803 son of Edward Flood of Castletown, Mountrath*. He was a
candle merchant of 52 Great Britain Street and of Hedsor in Co Kildare. He married
Mary Anne Johnson on 2 Sep 1824 at St Mary’s Pro Cathedral. Mary Anne was the only
daughter of the late F Johnston of Dublin. They lived at Priory Kilmacud from 1835 to 1849.
The lands at Priory were sold to the Dublin & Wicklow Railway Company in 1855. William
was on the committee to raise funds to enlarge the chapel at Dundrum in 1835 and on
the Dundrum National Schools committee from 1837 to 1844. He was a member of the
RDS from 1843 to 1864. He lived at Mount-town House from 1849 which he had built. The
house itself was on 9.5 acres and farm attached, which beside St John’s Church was on
about 70 acres. The house and lands were sold through the Landed Estates Court in 1868.
On the board of Rathdown Guardian from 1843. He kept Ayrshire Cattle and won an award
for them in 1847. He was appointed a magistrate for Kingstown in 1849. Mary Anne died
2 Jun 1860 at 18 Lower Mount Street. William was author of ‘The Irishman’s Tour of Ruin’.
His brother Captain Edward Flood lived at Castletown Mountrath and later at Badger Hill,
Mountrath. He also had land at Alastie, Co Kildare.
1 Christopher Francis Flood, eldest son born circa 1825 baptised at the Pro
Cathedral on 31 Aug 1825 graduated Trinity College and qualified as a doctor.
He was assistant surgeon with the HM 12th Lancers and died at Chittoor, India
of cholera on 4 Feb 1854.
2 William Flood baptised 19 Aug 1827 at the Pro Cathedral.
3 Elizabeth Flood born at Great Britain Street baptised 21 Mar 1828 at The Pro
Cathedral.
4 Mary Flood baptised 6 Dec 1829 at the Pro Cathedral.
5 Elizabeth Flood baptised 12 Aug 1832 at the Pro Cathedral.
6 Henry Flood baptised 21 Jan 1835 at the Pro Cathedral.
7 John Charles Flood born circa 1838 baptised Pro Cathedral in September 1838.
John died at Dunedin, New Zealand on 12 Jul 1868.
8 Arthur Edward Flood attend Sandhurst College. He went to India with the 61st
regiment and retired in 1861.
