Thomas Farrell a labourer married Catherine Stafford circa 1864. Thomas was an
agricultural labourer living at Saltmills, on the Tintern estate in Co Wexford. Saltmills
had a population of 125 in 1885. Catherine discovered a lump under her breast and
went to the local doctor who advised a trip to a Dublin Hospital to have it removed, but
she decided not to go ahead and instead attended a local woman to get the 'cancer cure'.
Catherine died 9 days later of poisoning by arsenious acid commonly called white arsenic,
on the 08.04.1890. The poison was absorbed from a plaster placed underneath her right
breast by Mrs Jane Warren, of Kiltealy who was charged with her manslaughter. Thomas
died on 20.06.1911 aged 109 years.

Catholic Chapel of Poulfur. Mary Anne died on 19.03.1941 aged 76 years at
Saltmills.
2 Bridget Farrell born 22.10.1866 at Saltmills. Bridget working at Newtown, Waterford
married Edward Meany of Barrack Street, Waterford son of John Meany on
13.09.1891 at St John’s Roman Chapel, Waterford. Bridget died in childbirth on
03.03.1901 at Bank Lane, Waterford.

of Sefton House. Mary Maguire the cook of Sefton was their witness. James was a
coachman and Lizzie Somers a servant at Sefton. Lizzy was the daughter of Michael
Somers. They moved to Rathmines in 1901 and were living at Observatory Lane in
1911.
