1 Kitty Errington died an infant and was buried at Richmond on 2 Dec 1800.
2 Michael born 30 Nov 1801 at Clints Hall, Marske in the Yorkshire Dales, son of Thomas
Errington and Catherine Dowdall. He married Rosanna Ferrall in Paris on 19 Nov 1838.
Rosanna was the daughter of Ambrose More O'Ferrall of Balyna, near Moyvalley, Co Kildare
and the sister of sister of Richard More O'Ferrell. The family were living at Carriglea,
Kingstown in 1846 and by 1852 were living at 2 Victoria Terrace in Kingstown and Cavendish
Row, Rutland Square by 1853. They lived at Casino between 1872 and 1874. Michael was a
generous benefactor to numerous charities. He played a part in the foundation and
management of the Catholic University of Ireland and was instrumental in the foundation of
the Vincent de Paul Orphanage of which he was president. Roseanna died 8 May 1873 at 45
Fitzwilliam square and was interred at Westland Row. Michael formerly of 10 Rutland Square
died 27 Aug 1874 at Casino. He funeral Mass was held at St Mary’s on Haddington Road and
celebrated by his brother George, Archbishop and he was interred at St Andrew’s Vaults,
Westland Row. Michael left 25K in personal estate.
1 George Mary Joseph Errington born September 1839 at Rockfield House was
baptised at Booterstown on 29 Sep 1839. He was educated at Ushaw College,
Durham, and at the Catholic University. He was honorary secretary of the Catholic
Union of Ireland and MP for Longford from 1874 to 1885 and he was the owner of
2,960 acres with an annual rental income of 2K in the counties of Tipperary, Kildare
and Dublin. He was created a baronet in 1885 for services rendered at Rome. He
was nicknamed the backstairs ambassador as he was an unofficial agent of
Gladstone’s government at the Vatican in 1881 at became known as the Errington
Mission to the Vatican. He married Frances Helena Shuldham on 1 Aug 1892 at the
Church of the Madeleine in Paris. Frances was the daughter of Herman Robert de
Ricci of Molsey, Surrey, and widow of John Shuldham of Moigh, Ballymulvey, Co
Longford. In 1896 George purchased Ramsfort House and Demesne from Thomas
Nevins, a wealthy Irish American, who had bought Ramsfort a few years previously
and renamed it Nevins Park. Ramsfort was a 500 acre estate in Gorey, Co Wexford
and cost 20K. In 1901 he gifted 20 acres to the town councillors for use as a public
park. Later this was substituted to an acre and 300 to built an Town Hall but
councillors couldn’t agreed and refused both offers. He was high sheriff of Co
Tipperary in 1888 and for Co Wexford in 1901. He was admitted a Knight of Malta
in 1901. The grounds were used by locals for fund raising events and football
matches. George and Frances travelled frequently and in 1906 went to Australia
and Ceylon and in 1911 they went to Sri Lanka. Sir George died suddenly at Ramsfort
on 19 Mar 1920 at was buried at St Michael’s Cemetery in Gorey after a simple
funeral mass where attendees were asked not to wear black mourning clothes. He
was a deeply religious person and attended mass everyday when at Ramsfort. He left
personal estate valued at 34K having made many large bequests to the Catholic
church in Ireland and England including 4K to Cardinal Désiré Joseph Mercier,
Archbishop of Malines and 1k towards the completion of Westminster Cathedral. He
bequeathed the residue to his widow. Lady Errington died in Molesey, Surrey late of
8 Royal Crescent, Bath and left 7K in personal estate.
2 James Michael Errington, second son born circa 1842 graduated Trinity and was called
to the Irish bar in 1866 and the English bar in 1868. He was a Knight of Malta and died
10 Aug 1891 late of Hanover Square in London and Lackham House in Chippenham.
He was buried at Lacock Cemetery in Wiltshire.
3 Mary Errington born circa 1845 married Percy Edmond Nugent of Dromore of
Westmeath on 20 Nov 1884 at St Michael’s Church, Kingstown although the newspaper
notice records it as being at St Francis Xavier Church in Upper Gardiner Street. Percy
was an engineer and the second son of the late Sir Percy Nugent and his wife Elizabeth
Sweetman. He died 30 Apr 1900 at 2 Leeson Park aged 72. Mary died on 18 April 1925
in an accident in London. No issue found.
4 John Errington born 4 July 1847 entered the Jesuits on 30 Dec 1881. He was professed a
priest on 22 Aug 1892. Father Errington inherited the Garrisker estate in Kildare and
Westmeath which was administrated by the Jesuits in Ireland. He died 11 March 1925
at Roehampton, London.
5 Josephine Mary Bernadine Susannah Errington younger daughter born 20 Aug 1853 at
13 Cavendish Row was baptised at the Pro Cathedral. She became a Sacred Heart nun
and died on 22 May 1902 at the Convent of the Sacré Couer, Manhattanville, New York.
3 George Errington second son born 14 Sep 1804 at Clints Hall, Marske, Richmond, North
Yorkshire was ordained priest in Rome on 22 Dec 1827 and became the first Bishop of Plymouth
in 1851. He was appointed Titular Archbishop of Trapezus (modernday Turkey) in 1855. From
1865 to 1868 he served as Parish Priest in Douglas, Isle on Man. He died 19 Jan 1886 at Prior Park,
near Bath.
