George Eckford of Kelso in Scotland married Euphemia Laidlaw.
1 John Eckford born circa 1837 married Jane Wyber daughter of Robert Wyber
on 24 Mar 1864 at Tullamore. John was a gentleman farmer and died at
Cappagolan, Tullamore 3 Aug 1894. The couple had ten children, eight of whom
survived to adulthood. Jane who was born in Scotland died in 1914 aged 85.
2 Andrew Laidlaw Eckford born circa 1839 at Kelso Scotland married Margaret
Hawkshaw, eldest daughter of John Hawkshaw of Durrow Abbey, Tullamore on
27 Apr 1864 at Durrow Church. Andrew was a chemist and chemical manure
manufacturer, living at Georges Villas in Sandymount. His fertilizer was
manufactured at Charlotte Quay, Dublin. T P & R Goodbody of Tullamore were
the sole agents initially but resigned the agency in 1872 keeping only the district
trade due to the success and growth of the business. The couple had at least eight
children and moved to Claremont House Sandymount. Margaret died aged 63 at
Malboro Road in 1902 and Andrew died at 69 Malborough Rd in 1917.
3 Thomas Porteaus Eckford born circa 1848 married Maria Robinson second daughter
of Shields Norman Robinson and Eliza Wallnutt of Ely Place, a coal merchant on
16 Nov 1870 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Thomas a rope and sail Manufacturer, and
General Ship Chandlers, of 3 and 4 South Prince's Street (Off City-quay, Dublin) died
at Drummartin Lodge on 16 Mar 1882 from heart failure aged 34 and was buried at
Mount Jerome. Maria was living at Palmerston Road in 1894. The Company of T P
Eckford ceased trading in 1959.
1 George Shields Eckford born 7 Apr 1872 at 35 Grand Canal Street Upper was a
Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers; and served from 1894
to 1900. He joined the Royal Engineers of the Plymouth Militia. He married
Hester Gwendolen Rose Tuite at St Andrews’ Church Kensington on 22 Dec 1896.
Hester was the daughter of Major General Tuite and the niece of Sir Mark Tuite,
Bart.
2 Norman Wallnutt Eckford born 21 May 1874 at Westland Row died 27 Mar 1875
aged 10 months was buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Norman Robinson Eckford born 4 Jan 1878 died 8 Sep 1878 aged 8 Months and
was buried at Mountt Jerome.
4 William Laidlaw Eckford born 16 Dec 1875 at 177 Rathgar Road took Holy Orders
and died a bachelor, suddenly from heart failure at Bantry on 4 Aug 1904 aged
28. He was Curate of Myross, Union Hall, Cork.
5 Arthur Edward Thomas born 4 Sep 1879 at 177 Rathgar Road 74 joined the 8th
Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in 1899 and was discharged unfit in 1902.
6 Mervyn John Eckford born 15 Sep 1880 at 177 Rathgar Road died 14 Nov 1880
aged 2 months at Drummartin Lodge was buried at Mount Jerome.
