Dwyer of Marlfield House Cabinteely and Dawson Court Blackrock
John Dwyer son of John Dwyer born circa 1752 was a lawyer of 1 Merrion Street. He
married Anna Upton in October 1773 at Riddlestown, Co Limerick. Anna was the
daughter of Francis Upton. He was secretary and confidential friend to the Lord
Chancellor John FitzGibbon. The chimneys of their house in Merrion Street collapsed
during the hurricane that struck Dublin in January 1802, but none of the family were
injured. They lived at Marlfield House, (the site of the original Cabinteely House) which
they leased from the Byrne family of Cabinteely, They had at least 12 children. John
died 13 Feb 1824 at Marlfield House. The interest in the house and demesne of
Marlfield on 45 acres was for sale later that year. Anna died circa 1830.
1 Charles Anne Adair, eldest daughter died 24 Oct 1858 at Brighton Square,
Monkstown, Co Dublin.
2 Eliza Dwyer of Monkstown parish married Henry Adair of Mountjoy Square South,
Dublin, barrister on 1 Apr 1807 (ML). Eliza died 26 Aug 1847.
3 John Dwyer 1st Son born 21 Aug 1774 was a barrister and married Elizabeth
Doyne at Westland Row in April 1806. Elizabeth was the third daughter of Robert
Doyne of Wells, Co Wexford. John died April 1834 in Limerick late of Kildare Place.
Elizabeth died at Liskennett, Limerick in October 1837.
1 John Stephen Dwyer born April 1807 at Merrion Square attended Trinity.
He was a solicitor of Castleconnell and was appointed magistrate for the
county of Limerick in 1846. He married Frances Anne Gill on 28 Jun 1843
at the British Embassy, Brussels. Frances was the youngest daughter of
the late John Gill, RN. John Stephen died 29 May 1878. Frances was
living at Stradbally House Co Limerick when she was granted probate
and died same place on 24 May 1905 aged 83.
1 Adelaide Frances Dwyer married Thomas Johnston Stoney, son
of Thomas Sadleir Stoney and Eleanor Luby on 16 Feb 1892.
2 Katherine Emma Georgina Dwyer, youngest daughter born
circa 1849 married William Robert Burkitt on 27 Jul 1871 at
Castle Connell Church. The service was conducted by the Rev
Philip Dwyer, uncle of the bride, incumbent of Ennis. William was
with HM Bengal Civil service. Katherine died at sea on board the
P & O ss Siam on 24 Oct 1886.
2 Frances Doyne Dwyer born circa 1809 graduated Trinity MB in 1831. He
married Maria Gabriella Theresa Esch in 1841. During the 1850's, Dwyer
served as a major in the Imperial Austrian Army. He bought Kilcor Castle
circa 1851. Major Francis Doyne Dwyer, late Quarter-Master General of
the Austrian army during the Italian campaigns was staying with his
brother, John Stephen Dwyer, Esq , J.P., Castlcconnell in 1864. He was the
owner of 207 acres in Clare in 1876. He lived at 51 Cauldwell St, Bedford,
from 1869 to 1876. In 1872 he was engaged upon a 'Life of Charles Lever'
including extracts from his correspondence but this never materialised. He
died in Southampton on 13 Nov 1880 at The Grove East Woodhay, Hants,
late of Ballyquirle, Co Tipperary and Tiernagh, Co Clare age 71. Marie died
28 Feb 1885 at East Woodhay.
1 Henrietta Elizabeth, second daughter died 16 Sep 1886 Santa Barbara,
California, USA of typhoid fever.
2 Geraldine Alice Jane Dwyer, fourth daughter married Alfred Lace on
28 Jul 1874 at St Mary’s Church, Bedford. Alfred was the eight son of
F J Lace, JP of Stone Gappe, Yorkshire.
3 Caroline Julia (Rutina) Dwyer youngest daughter married Major
Frederick Cullinan on 3 Aug 1893 at Ennis Church. Frederick was the
third son of John Cullinan, Bindon Street, Ennis.
3 Philip Dwyer born circa 1822 took Holy orders, married and moved to
England. In 1878 he was Rector of Drumcliffe, Ennis.
4 Margaret Dwyer, third daughter died at Dawson Court, Bootertown on 3 Dec 1829.
5 Jane Dwyer died a spinster on 22 May 1844 at Tivoli House, Kingstown.
6 Francis Maria Dwyer fifth daughter born circa 1784 died a spinster at Bray in August
1835.
7 Francis Dwyer married Elizabeth Hamilton on 5 Apr 1805. He sold out as six Clerk
of the Court of Chancery in 1825 and was a JP of Upper Fitzwilliam Street living at
Elm Green, Blanchardstown in 1835.
1 Frances Dwyer eldest daughter married Robert Mansell of Merrion Square on
3 Jan 1835 at Castleknock Church.
2 Mark Anthony Dwyer a proctor at the Prerogative Court died in July 1839 after
he was trampled by a horse at the first of the Garrison races.
8 Anthony Dwyer third son born circa 1785 entered Kings Inn in 1801.
9 Henry Dwyer born circa 1787 was a major general in HM Service. He died 20 Sep 1869
late of Ballyquirk Castle, Co Tipperary.
10 George Dwyer born circa 1788 took Holy orders and was Rector of Ardrahan, Co
Galway. He died at Ironbridge, Staffordshire on 5 Feb 1862.
11 Henrietta Dwyer born circa 1791 died at the Rectory Tulla as last surviving daughter
in April 1857.
12 Isabella Helena Dwyer, seventh and youngest daughter born 1793 died 11 Nov 1821
and was buried at Carrickbrennan Graveyard.
