Dundas family of Whitehall House & Hollycourt Blackrock
Major Laurence Dundas born 12 Apr 1788. He attained the rank of major with the 5th Fusiliers.
He fought in the Peninsular Wars and was awarded the Military General Service Medal (1793
to 1814). He was ADC to the Duke of Wellington. He married Charlotte Slator in St Peter's
Church, Dublin on 4 Sep 1812. They lived at Thornbury, Abbeyleix and had a residence at
Leeson Street until 1842. They moved to Hollycourt, Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock in 1843.
Lawrence was the secretary of the Blackrock & Stillorgan Relief Fund in 1846. The household
furniture of Hollycourt was sold 1857/8 and they moved to Corrig Castle in Kingstown.
Laurence Dundas died on 19 Jul 1866 at Corrig Castle, Kingstown and was buried at
Carrickbrennan. Maria born 15 Dec 1795 died 25 Nov 1870 and was buried with her husband.
1 Lorenzo George Dundas eldest son born circa 1813. He married Eleanor Eyre in July
1835. Eleanor was the widow of John Callanan of Tullywood, Co Galway. Eleanor died
at Auburn on 21 Mat 1851.
He was resident at Auburn, Co Westmeath and secondly married Jane Anna Maria on
3 Aug 1854 at Grasmere, Westmoreland. Jane was the only child of the late Thomas
Grimston of Ripon, Yorkshire. Lorenzo was a medical doctor and JP. He died at
Clobemon Hall, Ferns Wexford on 28 Sep 1897.
1 Lorenzo George Dundas eldest son born circa 1841 was a Colonel CB, Commanding
the 5th PB Victoria 18th Belfast in 1901.
2 George Charles Dundas 2nd son born circa 1814 in Dublin educated in the Isle of Man and
admitted Kings Inns. George took Holy orders and married Constance Stephenson on
22.09.1842 at Leominster. Constance was the youngest daughter of the late Captain
Stevenson and granddaughter of the late James Poole of Hennor House in Hereford.
George was Vicar at St Matthews, Nottingham. Constance died 04.01.1858 at Nottingham,
George died 18.04.1883 at Nottingham.
1 Colonel Henry Laurence Dundas born 01.08.1843 at Hollycourt, Carysfort Avenue,
Blackrock. Henry married Ida Constance De Lisle Burrowes only daughter of Rev
Thomas Robert Burrowes on 06.08.1875 at St James’s Church, Piccadilly. In 1891
the family were living at 62 Comeragh Road, Fulham. Henry was appointed as
Assistant Adjutant General of the Dublin District in December 1891 and they lived
at Whitehall, Blackrock from 1893 until 1896. Henry died 10.11.1908 aged 64 years
at Portsmouth. Ida died 09.02.1927 aged 74 years in Hove.
1 Ivy Muriel Dundas born 10.10.1878 at Portsea Island, Hampshire married
(Joseph) Austen Chamberlain son of Joseph Chamberlain and half-brother
of Neville Chamberlain on 21.07.1906 at the Parish Church of St Margaret,
Westminster. Austen was the recipient of the 1925 Nobel Peace Prize.
Austen died on 16.03.1937 at 24 Egerton Terrace, Kensington. Ivy died
13.02.1941 aged 62 years in London.
2 Ida Marguerite Dundas born circa 1884 at Southsea, Hampshire.
2 Frederick George Dundas born 16.06.1845 Durham. Frederick RN married Eliza Beck
eldest daughter of Charles Beck on 10.02.1866 at St Mary’s Church, Leicester. In 1881
the family were living at 120 Ladbrook Grove Road, Kensington. Frederick died on
05.03.1899 Kensington. Eliza was living in Fulham in 1901 and 1911.

3 Rev Charles Leslie Dundas born 01.11.1847 at Myton on Swale, Yorkshire. Charles
married Helen Jane Cobb daughter of Rev William Cobb the Vicar of Sholden on
01.07.1869 at Sholden, Kent. Two stained glass windows were erected in his memory
at St David`s Cathedral, Hobart.
4 George Albert Dundas born 19.07.1849 at Myton on Swale. George MD of HM Indian
Service married Essie Jemima Hatton eldest daughter of Peter Valentine Hatton on
18.02.1873 at St Matthew’s Church, Nottingham. George died 23.10.1887 Mian Mir,
Lahore, India.
5 Sidney Thomas Dundas born 09.07.1851 at Easingwold, Yorkshire died 03.04.1857
aged 6 years.
6 Margaret Adelaide Dundas born 05.10.1853 at Ellesmore, Shrewsbury married Rev
Thomas John Rider the Vicar of Carrington son of Thomas John Rider on 03.05.1877
at St Matthew’s Parish Church, Nottingham. Thomas died on 02.10.1911 at Tilley-
cum-Trench, Shropshire. Probate to wife Margaret.
1 Constance Mary Rider born 19.08.1878 at Carrington.
2 James Sidney Dundas Rider baptised 23.10.1881 at Carrington.
3 Henry Dundas, third son took Holy orders. He was the incumbent of Warton, Lancs
and married Dinah Frances Cummings in April 1845 at Kirkham Church. Dinah was
the daughter of James Cummings of Kirkham, Lancs.
4 Sarah Georgina Dundas born circa 1820 eldest daughter. She married John Dooner of
Mount Street at Abbeyleix Church on 3 Jun 1839. Sarah died a widow at Barton Lodge,
Rathfarnham in 1900.
5 William John Dundas fourth son. He married Caroline Grace Roe at Abeyleix Church
in January 1841. He was called to the bar in 1844 and later took Holy orders.
6 Adelaide Maria Dundas youngest daughter. She was living at Hollycourt and married
James White Minchin on 7 Jun 1853 at Monkstown Church. James resident at Philipstown,
Kings’ County was a captain in the 62nd Regiment and the son of Captain William Minchin.
1 Ada Minchin born 10 Nov 1869 died 29 May 1870 and was buried with her
grandparents at Carrickbrennan.
2 James Minchin born 15 Sep 1864 died 10 Sep 1871 and was buried with his
grandparents at Carrickbrennan.
