Francis Aldborough Prittie born 4 Jun 1779 was the second son of Henry Sadlier Prittie,
the 1st Baron Dunalley and his wife Catherine Sadlier. He married Martha Otway, on
10 Sep 1800. Martha was the only daughter of Cooke Otway and the widow of George
Hartpoole. He was a DL for County Tipperary and MP for Doneraile in 1800. Martha
died in March 1802.
1 Martha Elizabeth Prittie eldest daughter born circa 1801 married the Rev Robert
William Henry Maude at St Peter’s Church Dublin on 2 May 1827.
Francis secondly married Elizabeth Ponsonby on 16 Jul 1803. Elizabeth was the only
daughter of Hon George Ponsonby and Lady Mary Butler. They lived at Corville in Co
Tipperary and had at least six children. He was the Custos Rotulorum for Tipperary.
Elizabeth died 15 Jan 1849 at Corville Co Tipperary. He died on 8 Mar 1853. Francis
would have succeeded to the title but died before his older brother, so in 1855 all his
children were given the title, place and dignities of children of a baron by Royal patent.
2 Mary Prittie second born circa 1804 died a spinster at 19 Feb 1853 at 9 Holles
Street.
3 Catherine Charlotte (Kate) Prittie born circa 1805 married William Leader
Maberly William in November 1830 at Roscrea. William was a lieutenant colonel
serving with the 76th Regiment. He was secretary of the GPO at St Martin’s Le
Grand, London.
4 Henry Prittie eldest son born 7 Jan 1807. He married the Hon Anna Maria Louisa
O’Callaghan on 10 May 1841 at Shanbally Castle, Youghal. Anna was the
daughter of Cornelius O’Callaghan, Viscount Lismore. Henry was High Sheriff of
Co Tipperary in 1840 and a DL for the county. He succeeded to the title of 3rd
Baron on the death of his uncle Henry, 2nd Baron on 19 Oct 1854. They spent
the summer seasons in Dunmore East, Waterford. Henry sold 800 acres of land
through the Encumbered Courts in 1858. They family lived at Charleville,
Newtownpark Avenue from 1864 to 1867. Lady Dunalley died at Dublin in July
1867 aged 50. The title reverted to her husband’s aunt on her death. She was
buried at Dolla graveyard in Nenagh. Henry died 10 Sep 1885 and was buried at
Dolla.
1 Eleanor Mary Prittie born 13 Dec 1846 at 3 Fitzwilliam Place baptised at St
Peter’s, Dublin died an infant.
2 Henry O’Callaghan Prittie born 21 March 1851 at Dawson Street. He was
educated at Harrow and graduated Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a
DL and married Mary Frances Farmer in March 1876. Mary was the
daughter of Colonel Reginald Onslow Farmer of the Royal Artillery. Henry
was High Sheriff of County Tipperary in 1883 and succeeded his father as
4th Baron in 1885. In 1908 Henry came to an agreement with with the
500 tenants and the Land Commission to sell the estate. It was the second
largest estate in Tipperary consisting of 21081 acres which was valued at
£7,162 in 1876. Kilboy House designed by William Leeson in 1771 was
burned to the ground by 'Irregulars' on 2am on the morning of the
3 Aug 1922. The Pritties were in London on holiday at the time and six
servants and the land steward were on the premises. Shots were fired,
then the raiders went to the top floor and doused the house with petrol.
Priceless art treasures, rare furniture, a vast collection of historical
documents were destroyed and thirty people lost their jobs. The raiders
returned the following night and burnt down the outhouses. Henry made
various claims for furniture etc and claimed 75K for the house; he was
awarded £22,330. They started rebuilding in 1926, and that same year Henry
sold 1200 acres to the Irish Land Commission for distribution to landless
tenants in the area. The new house was a replica of the old house built on
the footprint of the old house and reusing the original steps and perhaps the
stone pillars and portico from the old house. They moved back to the house
in July 1927 and Henry died there a few weeks later on 5 Aug 1927. He was
buried at Dolla and left 55K in personal estate. Mary died 18 May 1929 and
was buried with her husband.
1 Henry Cornelius O’ Callaghan Prittie born 19 Jan 1877 at Lower Baggot
Street He was with The Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own) and fought
1901-1902 in the Boar War. He married Beatrix Evelyn Graham on
19 Jun 1911 at Chelsea. Beatrix was the daughter of James Noble
Graham. He fought in WW1 and was awarded the DSO in 1916. He
became the 5th Baron Dunalley on the death of his father in 1927. He
died on 3 May 1948 at Kilboy and was buried at Dolla. Beatrix died in
1967 and was buried with her husband.
1 Henry Desmond Graham (Desmond) Prittie born 14 Oct 1912 at
Edinburgh married Phillipa Cary in 1847 in London. Phillipa was
the only daughter of Major Philip Cary. Desmond became the 6th
Baron Dunalley in 1948. Kilboy house was demolished on the
return of Desmond from the war as it was impractical and a one
storey house was built on the footprint which retained the flight of
steps and part of the portico.
2 Terence Cornelius Farmer Prittie born 15 Dec 1913 in London.
2 Kathleen Everilda Prittie born 13 Apr 1882 died 27 Apr 1910 at Kilboy and
was buried at Dolla.
3 Cornelia Elizabeth Prittie born 25 Mar 1850 at the Shelburne Hotel died a
spinster at Nenagh on 28 Dec 1888. She was involved in a hunting accident,
her horse stumbled and she fell from the saddle with her feet still attached
to the stirrups. She left 21K in personal estate.
5 George Ponsonby Prittie second son born 1808 married Henrietta Hester
Gregory in November 1841. Henrietta was the only daughter of Lieut Col
Gregory. He was clerk of the peace for Clonmel, Tipperary from circa 1843.
They lived at Rathronan house before purchasing Oakville circa 1849. They
had at least four children. George died at Oakville, Clonmel on 15 Aug 1879.
Hester died at Kailzie, Peeblesshire on 10 Apr 1885 aged 61 and left 11K in
personal estate.

6 Frances Sadlier Prittie third daughter born on 25 Oct 1811 was with the 76th
Regiment of Foot. He married Mary Rose circa 1838 daughter of Peter Rose of
Demerara. Mary died at Ventnor, Isle of Wight on 25 Mar 1844. He was an army
officer of Dublin Castle and secondly married Susanna Carter on 27 Oct 1846 at
St Werburgh Church. Susanna was the only daughter of W H Carter of
Castlemorton, Kilcullen, Co Kildare. He lived at Glenview Tipperary and died July
1867.
7 Elizabeth Frances Prittie fourth daughter married John Bagwell of Marlfield,
Co Tipperary at St Anne’s Church, Dublin in June 1838.
