Robert Campbell Drought born circa 1775 only son of Rev Dr James Drought of Keavan's
Port (Camden Street). His father was a professor of divinity in Trinity College. He took
Holy orders and married Mary Bristow at St Peters on 5 Mar 1796. Mary was the
daughter of Roger Bristow of Baggot Street. Robert was the curate of Shadwell from 1820.
Robert emigrated to Tasmania and died 27 Apr 1836 at Green Ponds, where is was
Chaplain General to the province.
1 Anne Drought born circa 1797 married James Giddings circa 1816 and they moved
to Green Ponds, Tasmania circa 1829.
2 Susanna Drought married Christopher Allen in 1791. Susanna died in Dublin in
December 1815.
3 James Drought born circa 1799 married Susan Bird and died in 1866.
4 Charles Bristow Drought took Holy orders.
5 Justinian Raynsford Drought born circa 1801 joined the HEIC and died from cholera
in Madras on 28 May 1831.
6 Henry Albert Matthew Drought born 3 May 1814 was one of at least eight children.
Lieutenant Henry Drought of the Indian Navy married Maria Helen Eyre on
26 Sep 1849 at Bombay. Henry was the son of Robert Drought and Maria from
Galway was 17 and the eldest daughter of Robert Booth Eyre, rector of Eyres Court
and his first wife Sarah Persse. Maria and the children were living at Horsley Court,
Horsley Bridge Hill, Horsley, Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1861 and he was appointed
Commodore. They moved to Stillorgan and Henry was Hon Sec to the Rathdown
Union by 1874. Henry died 4 Mar 1893 at Avoca Avenue and Mary died 22 Oct 1906
at Woodlawns, Avoca Avenue.
1 Sarah Frances Drought born Aug 1851 in Byculla, Bombay died 9 May 1863 in
Croyden, Surrey.
2 Albert Eyre Drought born 6 Oct 1856 in Bombay baptised in Singapore. He
married Helen Keith Nicall on 26 Oct 1907 at Orange, Florida, United States.
His bride was 24 years his junior. Albert died in the USA in 1920 survived by one
daughter Alice.
3 Percy James Drought baptised in Horsley on 7 Jul 1860. He was a physician and
surgeon based in Blackrock in 1884. He moved to Tasmania and married Mary
(Minnie) McAdam from Limerick on 4 Apr 1887 at Greenponds and was living at
Denison Street, King, NSW in 1891 and were living in Essex by 1901. Percy died
on 7 Dec 1938 Rochford, Essex, England.
1 Cyril Drought born circa 1890 in New South Wales qualified as a marine
engineer. He married Beatrice and they had a daughter Patricia. They
were living with his father in 1921.
4 Robert Henry Persse Drought baptised 14 Feb 1864 in Croyden, Surrey married
Adele Greaven on 21 Mar 1895 at Manhattan, New York, Adele was the
daughter of Anthony Greaven and Anna O’Rourke. Robert died 30 Nov 1943 in
Llandudno. No issue found.
5 Mary Helena Drought born 4 Nov 1864 at Avoca Avenue Blackrock baptised at
Christ Church, Blackrock died 30 Dec 1864 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
6 Edith Campbell Drought born 18 Jul 1867 at Avoca Avenue, Blackrock Blackrock
baptised at Christ Church, Blackrock died 14 May 1873 and was buried at Stillorgan
graveyard.
7 Blanche Mildred Drought born 10 Dec 1868 at Avoca Avenue, Blackrock baptised
at Christ Church, Blackrock died 13 Nov 1869 and was buried at Stillorgan
graveyard.
8 Edgar Bristow Drought born 2 Aug 1870 at Avoca Avenue, Blackrock baptised at
Christ Church, Blackrock. He joined the civil service and was a clerk with the
Congested Districts Board living with his mother in 1901. He enlisted and served
during WW1. He was murdered on 29 Aug 1917 at Zanzibar, Sarawak, Nyasaland
the farm of his brother JJ who was away serving with Ross's Scouts.
9 Richard Eustace Annesley Drought born 14 Feb 1873 at Avoca Avenue, baptised
at Christchurch, Blackrock.
10 James Justinian Drought born 12 Apr 1877 at Avoca Avenue studied geology
at the Royal College of Science, Dublin. He left Ireland for South Africa in 1896 to
work for the New Croesus Gold Mining Company in Johannesburg. He enlisted in
South Africa and fought with the Rand Rifles Imperial Light Horse during the Boer
War and was badly wounded. He married Martha Frang in 1901. He was working
in Australia in 1902. He also served during WW1 with the East African Mounted
Rifles, South African Expeditionary Force and was awarded the Military Cross in
1916 and the chevalier of Ordre of St Leopold in 1918. He worked with the Kenya
Development Ltd and in 1934 was technical assistant to Sir Albert Kitson. He died
in Mombasa, Kenya, on 20 Sep 1956. They had one child Reginald who died aged
13 days.
