Charles Powlett Doyne born circa 1758 was a lieutenant in the Regiment of Foot in 1781
and retired after his marriage. He was resident at View-mount and married Eliza Jane
Vicars of Ballinahill/Ballynakill in September 1785, their marriage licence was issued some
three months later. Eliza was the daughter of William Vicars and the owner of the 1000
acre Derryfore estate. Charles was a member of the farming society of Ireland. Charles
had estates at Park, Co Carlow and Derryfore in Queen’s County and they had at least
nine children. Charles of Portarlington died at Torquay Devon in December 1823.
Elizabeth died 30 Jan 1842 at Riversdale, Stillorgan.
1 Anne Mary Doyne eldest daughter married Robert White of Old Park,
Rathdowney at Lea Church, Rathmiles on 23 Nov 1818.
2 Charles William Doyne eldest son born circa 1788 in Queens County graduated
Trinity College and took Holy orders. He married Charlotte Jane Stannus in
January 1813. Charlotte was the second daughter of Thomas Stannus of
Portarlington. Charles was the curate of Tullow and appointed to Fethard in
1826. They had a least eight children and Charles had the living of Fenagh in
1844. Charles died at Fenagh Rectory, Co Carlow on 29 Feb 1856 and left £5 in
personal estate. He was buried at Dunlecky Old Graveyard. Charlotte died
January 1865and was buried with her husband.
1 Elizabeth Jane Doyle married Henry Newton of Mount Leinster in 1834.
2 Caroline Doyne second daughter born circa 1821 died 23 Aug 1870 in
Dublin.
3 Charles Stannus Doyne died at sea on 25 Dec 1853. He was a bachelor
and his sister Caroline was granted administration of his estate.
4 Harriette Frances Doyne married John Stewart Machonchy on
17 Nov 1847 at Fenagh Church.
5 Philip Walter Doyne took Holy orders. He was the rector of Nenagh and
married Emily Richards on 25 Apr 1849 at Enniscorthy.
6 Charlotte Henrietta Doyne married the Rec John Cotter MacDonnell,
Rector of Kilsallaghan on 21 Apr 1853 at Fenagh Church. John was the
son of Richard MacDonnell, Provost of Trinity.
7 Sophie Doyne youngest daughter married Thomas Mercer Vigors, a civil
engineer on 13 Jan 1857 at St Anne’s Church, Dublin. Thomas was the
son of Rev Thomas Mercer Vigors.
3 Philip Powlett Doyne born circa 1796 got a commission with the Royal Horse
Guards (The Blues) in 1813. He married Catherine Botham in 1831 at
Westminster and they resided in England. He died in Suffolk in 1866 late of
Henrietta Street, Bathwick.
4 Bury Doyne third son born circa 1798 married Caroline Mary Anne Kearney on
23 Sep 1828 at Waltham Church, Berkshire. Caroline was the eldest daughter and
co heiress of the late Lieut Colonel Henry John Kearney of White Waltham, Berks
and cousin to the Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos. They lived in Berkshire
and no issue found. Bury died in 1865 at Torquay.
5 Robert Vicars Doyne youngest son born circa 1801 married Bellamire Mundee at
Clifton Church on 4 Mar 1825. Bellamira was the second daughter of Valentine
Mundee of Clifton. He was living at Riversdale, Stillorgan in 1841. He died at
Kingstown in May 1845.
6 Henrietta Doyne youngest daughter born circa 1803 married William Hamilton
of Moyne, Queens’ at Stillorgan Church in September 1829. Henrietta died a widow
at Roundwood, Queens County on 3 Jan 1881.
