Dionysius Dowling married Susanna Glasco

died circa 1820
Dionysius (Denis) Dowling son of John Dowling, teacher was born in Dublin
circa 1761. He graduated Trinity BA in 1784. He married Mrs Glasco, widow
of Manasses Glasco, assistant curate of Monkstown parish at Monkstown in
June 1784. In 1787 he was operating a school from Blackrock and by 1789 the
school was based at Elmfield in Blackrock.
He was a member of the Literary Teachers society from 1791 to 1793 and was
granted the Freedom of the City in 1796. As well as teaching, he preached
charity sermons and officiated at the occassional marriage ceremony. He
moved to Loughswinny in Derry in 1815 and died circa 1820.
1 His step-daughter Rosetta Glasco born circa 1782 died unmarried on
26 Jan 1864 at Clarence Parade, Cheltenam.
2 Joseph Dowling, only son born circa 1790 married Harriet Fox of Charing
Cross at St Martin’s Church on 27 Feb 1817 and remained in England.
1 Thurlow Dowling, eldest son married Charlotte Hazett Dunn in 1848.
2 Harriett Andrews Dowling married Horace James in 1847.
3 Dionlysius Wlfred Dowling, second son married Catherine Elizabeth
Arnold in 1848.
4 Cordelia Dowling, second daughter married Oliver Howden in 1847.
5 William Henry Dowling, third son born circa 1824, a Lieut, he was
killed at Inkerman 5 Nov 1854 and was buried at Cathcart Hill in the
Crimea.
6 Caroline Dowling, third daughter married C H Montressor Smith in
1846.
3 Letitia Dowling married Captain Samuel Colberg of Forres, Morrey in Scotland
on 7 Jun 1833. Letitia died 10 Nov 1858 at Howth View, Donnybrook Road
leaving her estate to her nephew Thurlow Dowling.
