D'Olier family of Toulouse
The D’Olier family came from Toulouse, France. Charles Edouard d’Olier was the French
Ambassador in Constantinople in 1673.
Isaac D’Olier, grandson of Edouard born circa 1667 Montauban in the Province of Dauphine, fled
France at the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes and entered the service of William of Orange. He was
made a free Burgess of the City of Amsterdam on 21st May 1686 and the City of Dublin on 21st
October 1697. Isaac followed William to England in 1688 and finally ended up in Dublin probably
under the ‘Act for Encouraging Protestant Strangers to settle in Ireland 1662. Isaac was made a
Freeman of City of Dublin on 21.10.1697.
Isaac D’Olier married Martha Pilkington daughter of Richard and Mary Pilkington of Tore House,
Westmeath circa 1706. The will of Richard Pilkington 14.11.1711 names his daughter Martha D’Olier
and appoints Isaac D’Olier as one of his executors. Isaac died in 1744 and is buried at St Mary’s
Church.
1 Isaac D’Olier born circa 1707 of Little Forest apprenticed to be a Goldsmith in 1721 to John
Williamson. Isaac a Goldsmith of Cork Hill married Joyce Keen daughter of Arthur Keane of
Ulverston, Lancaster circa 1733 at St Werburgh’s Church, Dublin. Isaac D’Olier died in 1779
and Joyce died in 1780. Will dated 1779, proved 1782.
1 Isaac D’Olier born circa 1733 of Finglas was apprenticed in 1747 to Robert Billing.
Isaac married Mary Keene on 28.04.1768 at St Mary’s Church, Dublin.
1 Joseph D’Olier a Merchant, Freeman of the City of Dublin Midsummer 1792
by merit of birth. Director of the Bank of Ireland died unmarried in 1843.

5 Richard D’Olier baptised on 24.06.1738 at St Werburgh’s Church married Sarah
Rosanna Ogle daughter of Nicholas Ogle of Westmeath on 11.02.1768 at St Anne’s,
Dublin. Richard and Sarah went to France for his health with 3 children shortly before
the Reign of Terror. They were imprisoned at Montauban and refused passports.
When Rospierre died in 1794 they were released and returned to Dublin. Richard
died circa 13.10.1816 and is buried at St Peter’s, Dublin.
1 Frederick D’Olier born circa 1769 attended Trinity College. Frederick died
unmarried on 23.04.1832 of Canal Harbour and is buried at St Peter’s.
2 Dr Isaac D’Olier born circa 1772 LLD MRIA., Freeman of the City of Dublin
1799. Secretary of the Board of First Fruits, Isaac married Maria Jane Brooke
daughter of William Henry Brooke of Dublin circa 1795. Isaac was a member
of the RDS in 1810 and treasurer of Baggot Street house of refuge for
women. Isaac died on 22.11.1841 aged 70 years at his residence in Baggot
Street and Maria died on 18.07.1854 aged 77 years and they are buried at
Merrion Row.
3 Robert Henry D’Olier
4 Anna Maria D’Olier born circa 1774 was in Montpelier in France with her
parents at the time of the Revolution and wrote a memoir of their
inprisonment. When they returned to Dublin Anna married David Courtney by
special licence circa 23.03.1797. David of Mespil Grove was thrown from his
horse and died circa 11.04.1811 and is buried at St Peter’s Church. He left 9
children and no Will. Anna Maria of 118 Lower Baggot Street formerly of
Mespil Grove died on 10.04.1856 aged 82 years and is buried at St Peter’s Church.

at St Peter’s Church.
2 Henry Courtney of Baggot Street baptised 23.01.1801 at St Peter’s Church.
3 Eliza Courtney 2nd daughter married Arthur Kingston only son of Alexander
Kingston of Mosstown, Longford on 04.11.1818 at St Peter’s Church.
4 Sarah Courtney 3rd daughter married Rev John Galbraith on 26.02.1821 at
St Peter’s Church.
5 Anna Maria Courtney 4th daughter died 13.03.1881 at Bournemouth.
6 Harriet Courtney 5th daughter born circa 1805 died on 28.11.1881 aged
77 years at Lower Baggot Street.
5 Sophia Julianna D’Olier baptised on 13.07.1776 at St Mary’s Church married James
Wilson circa 1809.
6 Jane D’Olier baptised on 12.09.1740 at St Werburgh’s Church married William Homan.

8 Jeremiah D’Olier baptised on 31.08.1746 at St Werburgh’s Church married Jane Collins on
24.02.1769 at St Andrew’s Church, Dublin. They lived at Collignes.
