Frederick Sutton Darley De Vere White born 2 Dec 1880 son of Rev Hill Wilson White,
warden of Wilson’s Hospital, Multyfarnham and his wife Lucia Charlotte (Lucinda) Sutton.
He was the grandson of the Rev Henry Vere White and Frederick Sutton. He was
educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen and Campbell College, Belfast. He
graduated Trinity and was admitted a solicitor in 1904. Frederick was on the vestry of
Wilson’s Hospital in 1906. Appointed asst solicitor to the Great Southern Railway in 1906
and chief solicitor in 1913. He married Edith Frances (Ethel) Perry on 29 Oct 1908 at
Holyhead. Ethel was the second daughter of the late George Perry, barrister of 38
Rutland Square and Frances Dunne of 43 Dartmouth, Leeson Park. He identified as
Christian and his wife as Roman Catholic. He died in London on 28 Oct 1927 where he
had been on a visit to conduct business for the Railway Company. Ethel moved from
Highfield on the NCR to Kilmoylan, Foxrock in 1937. Ethel died at Vergemount Terrace
on 28 Jan 1950, her son Terrence the informant.
1 Aubrey George Hill White born 24 Aug 1910 at Kilmoylan, Cursis Stream,
Clondalkin. He died aged 9 from scarlatina on 28 Jun 1919 at the workhouse in
Loughlinstown late of Dunkeld, Portmarnock.
2 Herbert Terence (Terence) De Vere White born in April 1912 in South Dublin. He
graduated Trinity College in 1932. He was a solicitor with a practice at 21 Nassau
Street from 1936. He married Elizabeth Mary O’Farrell in February 1941 at
Holywood RC Church, Co Down. Elizabeth was the daughter of Major William of
Farrell, RAMC of Linton, Holywood, Co Down. They lived at 57 Adelaide Road in
1942. They moved to ‘The Cottage’, Roebuck in 1945 and it was here that he wrote
'The Road to Excess, a biography of Isaac Butt' who had died in the house some 66
years previously. He became the literary editor of The Irish Times in 1961 and
retired in 1977. He wrote twelve novels, five biographies, two volumes of short
stories and various other books.
3 John de Vere White born 18 Sep 1913 at 61 Marlboro Road, Donnybrook. He was a
night clerk at Guinness’ Brewery and drowned when his car plunged into The Liffey
on 20 Feb 1938 have left work at 6am to attend Mass. His watch stopped at 7:11am.
He died a bachelor late of Kilmoylan, Foxrock.
4 Patricia de Vere White born 2 Apr 1916 at 89 Lower Baggot Street, her father
resident at 21 Marlborough Road. She moved to American in 1950.
