Curry of Drummartin, Mount Anville
William Curry was a timber merchant trading as Curry & Keene in 1815 at 107 Sir John
Rogerson’s Quay.
1 John Curry of Drummartin House and of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay. He was a
timber merchant in partnership trading as William Curry & Son. He married
Isabella Keene on 12 Aug 1818 at St Peter’s Church Dublin. Isabella was the
daughter of Arthur Keene of Charlemont Street. Isabella died in November 1821.
John secondly married Eliza Brenan at Kilgobbin Church on 6 Oct 1824. Eliza was
the fourth daughter of Alexander Brennan, Six Clerk in Chancery and of Kingston
Lodge on the Enniskerry Road. John was churchwarden in Taney in 1832 and
owned a pew. It is unclear as to which house in Drummartin they lived. F E Ball
places him in Drummartin House but more likely to be Mount Anville Lodge. In
January 1837 William and John Curry were declared bankrupt and their stock in
trade was sold by their assignees in February. His house Anne Mount in Mount
Anville was sold by his assignees as was the furniture and livestock. He was back in
business at 73 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay by September 1838 and still there in 1843.
He was insolvent again in 1847. Eliza died at Montpelier Parade, Monkstown in
October 1860.

2 John Robert Curry second son born 2 Sep 1827 at 108 Sir John Rogerson’s
Quay baptised at St Marks. He married Mary Harriette Gabbett on
2 Mar 1858 at St Anne’s Dublin. Mary was the daughter of William Gabbett
of Linfield House, New Pallas, Co Limerick and his wife Elizabeth Furnell of
Caherelly Castle, Co Limerick. The marriage was solemnised by his uncle the
Rev N B Curry. John was a public accountant and auditor with an office at
College Green and later at 3 Fosters Place. He was an agent to a number of
assurance companies including the Royal Insurance Company of which he
became manager in 1860. In 1861 he commissioned architect Joseph Maguire
to build a house in Ballybrack for him. John died 1 Jun 1865 at Villa Franca,
Ballybrack. He was buried at Carrickbrennan graveyard with two of his infant
children.
1 John Shafon Gabbett Curry born 1 Jan 1859 at Leinster Road, Rathmines.
He married Mary Constance Massy on 25 Mar 1884 at Llandudno. Mary
was the daughter of Rev Dawson Massey, DD of Denn, Cavan. She was
the granddaughter of Hon Eyre Massy of Antavilla, Queen’s County.
2 Percy Curry born 19 Apr 1860 at Ventnor Terrace, Dalkey died in
December 1860 and was buried at Carrickbrennan.
3 Evangeline Furnell (Eva) Curry born 2 Mar 1862 at Villa Franca died same
place on 6 Nov 1862. She was buried at Carrickbrennan graveyard.
Mary secondly married James Little of Cliff Castle Co Dublin and Loughbrickland,
Co Down on 17 Oct 1867 at St George’s Church, Hanover Square, London. James
was a captain in the Royal Marines and the only son of the late Rev J Little DD.
3 Thomas Arthur Curry third son born 28 Jan 1829 at 108 Sir John Rogerson’s
Quay baptised at St Marks died at Quebec aged 20 on 29 Jul 1849.
4 Benjamin Shafton Curry born 6 Aug 1830 baptised at Taney Church went to
America, he was living at 428 N Grant ST, San Joaquin, California in 1892.
5 Anne Elizabeth Curry born 30 Apr 1832 baptised at Taney Church. Annie
married Francis Low of the Grove Killiney on 12 Jun 1860 at Monkstown Church.
Francis was resident at Donnybrook and the son of Francis Low, a banker.
2 Thomas Curry born circa 1807 in Dublin graduated Trinity.
3 Nathaniel Benjamin Curry born circa 1808 in Dublin graduated Trinity and took
Holy orders. He was ordained deacon in 1832 and priest in 1834. Nathaniel,
incumbent of Bawtry, Yorkshire married Anne Wolfe on 22 Aug 1843 at St Peter’s
Church, Dublin. Anne was the second daughter of John Wolfe, solicitor of 33
Upper Fitzwilliam Street. Nathaniel was appointed to the curacy of Ballymackey
in 1846 and the rectory of Kilcoleman in 1855. He resigned in 1873 and moved to
Killaloan in Tipperary. In 1888 he was looking for help in running the parish due
to failing health. Nathaniel died 18 Oct 1890 at 4 Longford Place, Monkstown.
Anne died at Torquay on 13 Nov 1894.
1 Arthur William Curry 7 Jun 1844 at Upper Fitzwilliam Street married Charlotte
Isabella Burges on 28 Sep 1887 at the Methodist Church, Clonmel. Charlotte
was the daughter of the late Robert Evans.
2 Sophia Curry born 28 May 1850 at Ballymackey Glebe, Nenagh died 25 Oct 1861
at at Kilcoleman Rectory, Parsonstown.
