Crofton family of Roebuck Castle
James Crofton of the Irish Treasury and his son Arthur were Commissioners for the construction of
the Royal Harbour of George IV at Kingstown. Their names appear on a monument erected in 1823
to commemorate the laying of the first stone by the Lord Lieutenant on 31st May 1817. James
Crofton of Kildare Street married Frances Stanley in 1797. He purchased Roebuck Castle from Baron
Trimleston circa 1802.

Huband of Fitzwilliam Square on 07.10.1828 at Taney Church. Witnesses: George Crofton
and Joseph Huband. Arthur died of fever on 29.12.1849 at Roebuck Castle. Catherine died
on 14.04.1882 at Heriot Row, Edinburgh.

Mark’s Church, Torquay. Letitia died on 14.09.1896 at Brighton.
2 Anne Crofton 2nd daughter born circa 1800 died 27.04.1817 aged 17 years at Roebuck Castle
and is buried at Taney Graveyard.
3 Louisa Crofton 2nd daughter born circa 1804 died on 22.06.1822 aged 18 years at Roebuck
Castle the seat of her father and is buried at Taney Graveyard.
4 George James Crofton 2nd son born circa 1808. George a Lieutenant in his Majesty’s 16th
Lancers married Matilda Mary White on 04.06.1832 and died of fever 24.08.1833 aged 26
years at Cawnpore, Bengal.
