Christopher (Christie) Craven of Goatstown son of Richard and Mary Craven married Kate
Rooney of Goatstown daughter of John and Jane Rooney at Holy Cross Chapel in 1892.
Witnesses: William Sheehan and Lizzie Byrne. Christopher was a labourer and Catherine
took in nurse children. The family lived at 31 Drummartin (Neilstown) from 1896 to 1902
and at Jolly's Lane from 1911. Five of their seven children survived in 1911. In 1926
Christopher was working at the waterworks and they were living at 7 Jolly's Lane. They had
three adopted children* living with them. Christopher died 18.07.1930 at the Meath Hospital
late of Kilmacud Road and is buried at St Nahi's, Churchtown. Catherine died 02.05.1935 at
Stillorgan.
1 Mary Josephine Craven born 08.03.1893 at Concrete Hall, Milltown married Michael
Downey at Kilmacud Church on 26.09.1918. Michael was the son of Michael Downey,
a farmer and a soldier living at St Joseph's Terrace, Limerick at the time of his
marriage. They were living at 15 Jolly's lane in 1926 with their two children and
adopted daughter Josey Ryan* and Michael was an out of work labourer. Their
adopted daughter remained living with them until 1943 when she married Patrick
Ivers at Kilmacud Church. Mary died at Loughlinstown Hospital late 29 Beaufield Park
on 12 Aug 1961 and is buried at Deansgrange. Michael a retired hospital orderly died
aged 72 at Loughlinstown Hospital on 17 Apr 1965 and is buried with his wife.
1 Michael John Downey born 6 Jan 1920 at Holles Street Hospital, father resident
at Kilmacud Road.
2 Cathleen (Kitty) Downey born 20 Oct 1922 at Stillorgan married Patrick Michael
Walsh on 12 Sep 1942 at Kilmacud Church. Patrick resident at Cavan Barracks
was with the Free State Army and was the son of Michael Walsh, a tailor.
2 Richard Craven born 20 Feb 1896 at Neilstown, Dundrum was a labourer and died
24 Jun 1917 at Stillorgan.
3 Thomas Craven born circa 1897.
4 Maggie Craven born circa 1898 died 01 May 1900 at Neilstown, Dundrum.
5 John Craven born 23.01.1900 at Neilstown, Dundrum served with A company, 6th
Battalion, Dublin Brigade and was imprisoned in 1921. He was a labourer working at
Mount Anville Convent in 1926. He married Mary Keane at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum
on 10.05.1933. Mary was a domestic living at Windy Arbour and the daughter of Thomas
Keane, a gardener. John of Windy Arbour was the informant at his mother’s death.
6 Anne Craven born 11.04.1902 at Neilstown, Dundrum died of rheumatic fever at the
Royal City of Dublin Hospital on 13.02.1913.
