Richard Coulson born 1860 at East Halton, Lincolnshire son of Richard Coulson and
Ann Coulson. He married Eliza Greer in 1881, daughter of Samuel Greer of Lurgan.
Under Religion he described his religious belief as ‘Rational Whenever one is Established’.
He was an architect and surveyor and lived at Waltham Terrace from 1901 to 1912. He
worked for Guinness’s and lived at 4 St James’ Gate. He designed the Grand Hotel in
Wicklow which opened in 1897 and taught at the City of Dublin Technical Schools and
The Science School. Eliza died on 25 Apr 1904 at the Adelaide Hospital and was buried at
Deansgrange.
1 Kathleen Vaughan Coulson baptised 13 Feb 1883 at St Stephen, Holy Trinity,
Hull. She joined the Alexandra Nursing Guild.
2 Richard Coulson born at Hull, Yorkshire in 1889 was an art student in 1901
and was a pupil at a motor car works in Coventry in 1911. Richard married Maria
Catherine Hateley in 1916. He was the administrator of his father’s will in 1927
and was living at Glenmalure, Gibbot Hill, Kenilworth. He died at Kenilworth,
Warwick on 27 April 1948.
3 Eileen Victoria Louise Coulson born 19 Dec 1896 at 26 Waltham Terrace
married Norman Hall Metcalf of Hillside, Glenageary and son of William
Metcalf, a surveyor on 19 Feb 1917 at St John's Church, Kingstown.
4 Mollie Coulson born 25 Sep 1901 at 4 Waltham Terrace died 27 Feb 1902 at 4
Waltham Terrace.
Richard secondly married Marian McNamara from the Isle of Man circa 1906. Richard
died 8 Feb 1927 at Grove House, Stillorgan and was buried at Deansgrange. Marian
was living at Mount Merrion by 1937 and died 22 Dec 1961 at 55 The Rise, Mount Merrion
and was buried at Deansgrange.
5 Dorothy Violet Coulson born 23 Feb 1906 at 4 Waltham Terrace.
6 Anthony Brian Coulson born 8 Sep 1907 at 4 Waltham Terrace. He was an
accountant living at Ealing and married Lesley Radcliffe at Taney Parish
Church on 24 Aug 1939.
7 Terence Inigo Coulson born 25 Aug 1909 at 4 Waltham Terrace.
8 Norman Vincent Coulson born 6 Mar 1911 at 4 Waltham Terrace died
9 Oct 1940 at 55 The Rise, Mount Merrion aged 29 from TB.
9 Denis Coulson born 24 Aug 1912 at 4 Waltham Terrace attended Avoca School
He was a Irish Hockey International who played at half-back and was capped 21
times for Ireland. He joined the Royal Tank Regiment and attained the rank of
major. He was awarded the DCM in 1941 and the Military Cross in 1942. He
married Maire Starkey, younger daughter of John Starkey of Saul, Sydney Parade.
He was an international hockey selector in 1955 and resigned in 1956.
10 Mary Frances Vera Coulson youngest daughter born 22 May 1914 at 4 Waltham
Terrance married John Hubert Thomas Robert Kelly, a brewery Inspector and
son of Spencer Litton Hall Kelly of Rosefield, Blackrock at St Brigid’s Church,
Stillorgan on 30 Apr 1938.
