Patrick Cosgrave born 21 Jan 1873 at Calverstown, Co Kildare son of William Cosgrave and Margaret
McDonald. Patrick’s father was a farmer. Patrick was a shop keeper/grocer living at Stillorgan and
married Margaret Carpenter at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum on 12 Jan 1896. Margaret was the
daughter of Patrick Carpenter, a herd and his wife Jane Hely. By 1911 they were running a grocers
shop at 16 Cross Avenue and they had four children of whom two survived. Margaret’s sister Mary
Jane Carpenter worked as an assistant in the shop. Margaret died 27 Mar 1943 and Patrick died
12 Aug 1945 at Cross Avenue and both were buried at Deansgrange.
1 William Cosgrave born 29.12.1896 Co Dublin was a civil servant and married Emilie Ellen
Coughlan of 2 Kent cottages Dalkey at Dalkey Church on 20 Jul 1927. Emilie was the daughter
of Christopher Coughlan, an accountant and his wife Margaret Mary Joseph Ferguson.
2 Patrick Cosgrave born circa 1898 Co Dublin died a bachelor on 28 Apr 1949 at 16 Cross
Avenue and was buried at Deansgrange.
3 John Cosgrave born 25 Aug 1899 died at Stillorgan village on 15 Sep 1899 and was buried at
Deansgrange.
4 Mary Jane Cosgrave born 4 Feb 1902 died 20 Feb 1902 at Stillorgan village and was buried at
Deansgrange.
5 Margaret Josephine Cosgrave born 7 Jun 1911 at Cross Avenue Kingstown died 10 Apr 1915 at
16 Cross Avenue and was buried at Deansgrange.
