Abraham Colles MD 1773-1843 married Sophia Cope on 23.04.1807 at Ballynahin, Aghold, Carlow.
They had a large family.
1 William Colles born circa 1809 director of medicine of St Stephens Green married Penelope
Hatchell Waddy of Malahide on 01.09.1859 at St Anne’s Church. William died on 18.06.1892
at 21 St Stephens Green aged 83 years. Penelope went to live with her daughter Sophia at
Merrion Square South and died there on 17.06.1915 aged 82 years.
1 Margaret Swan Colles born circa 26.01.1861 married Rev William Beaufoy Stillman
on 01.07.1891 at St Patricks Cathedral, Dublin. They went to live at Downham in
Norfolk.
2 Sophia Cope Colles youngest daughter born circa 05.12.1861 married Rev Herbert
Brownlow Kennedy son of Thomas Le Ban Kennedy on 01.07.1890 at St Ann’s
Church, Dublin. They lived at Merrion Square. Sophia died on 18.01.1934 aged 70
years at Corrig Castle, Dun Laoghaire and Herbert died on 28.05.1939 aged 76 years
at his residence on Sandycove Avenue.
3 Abraham Richard Colles born circa 04.02.1863 barrister at law married Sophia
Louisa Darley daughter of John Henry Darley of Ferney on 02.06.1896 at Stillorgan
Church. Abraham, only son died 29.06.1899 suddenly aged 36 years at Liverpool
on his way home from Calgory, Canada. Sophie was living at Earlsfort Terrace and
died 17.08.1946.
2 Henry Jonathan Cope Colles 2nd son born circa 24.06.1810 at Monkstown a barrister at law
married Elizabeth Mary Mayne eldest daughter of late John Mayne barrister at law on
14.08.1845 at St Anne’s Church, Dublin. Henry Colles of Ely Place was Master of the Four
Courts and died on 25.12.1877. Elizabeth died 16.02.1900 aged 75 years at 37 Upper
Mount Street, Dublin.
1 Anna Sophia Stewart Colles eldest daughter born 18.07.1846 at Ely Place baptised at
St Peter’s Church married Edmund Thomas Bewley only son of Edward Bewley MD
of Clare, Kings County on 08.08.1866 at Monkstown Church. Anna died on
20.12.1935 at Shottermill, Surrey.

Abraham of St Leonards, Bridgenorth married Emily Agnes Georgiana Dallas
daughter of Alexander Robert Dallas late Madras Army on 16.09.1875 at St John’s,
Wolwich. Abraham died suddenly of heart failure on 20.01.1912 aged 64 years at
Innisfail, Hampstead.
3 Frances Maria Adelaide Colles born 24.12.1849 at 14 Ely Place baptised at
St Peter’s Church married Edward Gibson on 04.04.1868 at St Stephen’s Church,
Dublin.
4 Marianne (Minnie) Colles born circa 1854 married William Snow Burnside F.T.C.D.
son of late Rev William Smyth Burnside of Corereevy House, Tyrone on 14.07.1888
at St Bartholomew’s Church.
5 Henrietta Elizabeth born 08.06.1855 married Henry Falconer Grant on 13.10.1874 at
Stuttgart, Germany. Henrietta died 30.01.1948 at Middlesburg, Virginia.
6 John Dawson Mayne Colles born circa 09.11.1858 barrister at law of 14 Ely Place
married Elizabeth Agnes Dickinson 2nd daughter of late Rev Charles John Dickinson,
Rector of Bodmin, Cornwall on 11.04.1885 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin. The
family lived at St Petroc in Galloping Green from circa 1887 to 1921. John died on
17.12.1922 at Hallam Street, Middlesex. In 1939 Elizabeth and daughter Ruth were
living at 40 Ennerdale Road, Richmond. Elizabeth died circa March 1944 aged 81
years in Surrey.
1 Muriel Colles born 18.12.1887 at 96 Lower Baggot Street died 19.03.1892
aged 4 years of meningitis at St Petroc, Stillorgan.
2 Charles Colles born 10.04.1890 at St Petroc, Stillorgan. In 1939 Charles was
living at 69 Maidstone Road, Chatham, Kent. Charles of 15 Letchworth
Avenue, Chatham, Kent a retired headmaster died on 23.09.1958 in Kent.
3 Ruth Colles born 05.06.1891 at St Petroc, Stillorgan. She became a VAD in
1915 and was posted to Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot. She was then posted
to 14 General Hospital, Wimereux in France to evacuate the sick to the United
Kingdom. Ruth died on 15.11.1988 aged 96 years in Buckinghamshire.
4 Ronald Colles born 10.09.1903 at St Petroc, Stillorgan married Mary Catherine
Burra eldest daughter of Dr Launcelot Toke Burra of Kimble on 16.06.1939 at
St Nicholas’ Church, Great Kimble. The best man was Charles Colles and they
went to live in Richmond, Surrey.
7 Ethel Florence Colles youngest daughter born circa 1864 married Joseph Henry
Moore a Barrister at Law son of James Hamilton Moore on 07.08.1888 at St
Stephen's Church.
