William Joseph Clarkson born circa 1859 in Queens County married Mary Byrne from
New Ross in 1882 at Leeds. The moved back to Ireland in 1887 but were back in Leeds
by 1891. William was a commercial traveller and boot manufacturer and Mary was a
boot shopkeeper. Mary died at 96 Belle Vue Road on 5 Apr 1915 and was buried at
Killingbeck. In 1921 William was working as a commercial traveller for H Richmond &
Sons Ltd, Rail Manufacturers and lived at Rutland House, 1 Lifton Place, Leeds. William
moved back to Ireland circa 1940. William a sheet plate manufacturer died on
6 Jun 1949 at Friarsland and left 16K in personal estate. He was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Annie Clarkson born circa 1884 in Leeds was working as a teacher at Leeds in
1901.
2 Francis William Clarkson born 17 Jul 1885 in Bramley was an agent for shoe
machinery. He died suddenly on 12 Jan 1928. He was buried at Killingbeck RC
Cemetery in Leeds. He left 12K in personal estate and probate was to his
father.
3 Vincent Joseph Clarkson second son born 26 Feb 1887 in Cork. He married
Agnes Haynes in April 1914 and served in WW1 as a sergeant in the RAMC.
Agnes was a school teacher from and the daughter of John Haynes of Nursery
Mount Road. Vincent was a civil servant at the Ministry of Labour and died at
Blackpool in 1954.

4 Eileen Clarkson born 29 Oct 1888 at 3 Lee Mills Place, Cork was living with her
parents in 1911. She joined a religious order.
5 Margaret Clarkson born 9 May 1891 at Quay Waterford living with her parents
in 1891. She joined a religious order.
6 Mary Elizabeth Clarkson born 26 Jun 1892 in Leeds was an elementary school
teacher living in Leeds in 1921. She moved to Ireland and lived with her
brother Anthony at Friarsland and was living at Drayton Lodge, Monkstown in
1968. She died a spinster at Monkstown and was buried at Deansgrange.
7 William Joseph (Willie) Clarkson third son born 3 Apr 1894 at Leeds was
working as a clerk in 1911. He married Annie Mary Johnson in 1916 at Leeds
Cathedral in December 1916 and they lived at Kenmare, Darnley Road, Leeds.
Annie was from St Helen’s Merseyside. William a motor engineer, of Leeds died
at Drumbarton on 2 Apr 1928 from pneumonia. When his remains were being
brought home by train from Glasgow where he had been working, his five year
old son fell through the train window and was killed. Both William and his son
were buried together at Killingbeck.
8 Anthony Leo Clarkson born 27 Feb 1897 at Leeds. He served in WW1 as Corporal
/acting Quarter Master Sergeant in the RAMC. He was working for Clarkson Bros
Shoe Findings & General Merchants of Leeds in 1921. He was living in Rawdon
near Leeds and moved to Ireland circa 1940. He lived at Friarsland and ran a
poultry farm which he closed when a CPO was issued on some of the land at
Friarsland. It appears he purchased a number of houses, ( including Taney
House) turned them into flats and rented them out. He sold off the furniture at
Friarsland in 1961 and moved to Drayton Lodge, Monkstown. He died a
bachelor, late of Drayton Lodge, at Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital on 28 Sep 1968 and
was buried at Deansgrange. He left 6K in personal estate.
9 Mary Joseph Teresa (Josephine) Clarkson youngest daughter born 14 Jun 1901
at Leeds married Dr Joseph Forbes at St Augustine’s Church, Leeds on
19 May 1937.
