Edward Chapman a grocer, wine and spirit merchant of 35 Erne Street son of Henry Chapman
married Margaret Doyle youngest daughter of John Doyle, a farmer of Greystones and 12 Barry’s
Terrace, Rathmines in 1847 at St Peter's Church of Ireland. A second ceremony was performed
in Rathmines by the Rev Mulhall of St Andrew's RC Church, Westland Row at the family home.
Their daughters were baptised Church of Ireland and their sons as Roman Catholic. Edward
extended his premises into 81/82 Great Brunswick Street in 1860. In 1867 there was a fire at the
premises and Edward retired to Woodley. They lived at Woodley from 1868 to 1881. Margaret a
married woman died at Woodley Park and was buried at Mount Jerome. After Margaret's death
the furniture (mostly made y Arthur Jones & Sons) and house effects were put up for sale.
Included in the sale was a collection of time pieces and 150 books. By 1889, Edward was living at
29 Gwendwr Road, London with his son in law, Henry Creagh. In 1890 the sale of Woodley was
ordered by the land Judges. Edward died in Fulham in 1905.

son of Gerald Byrne on 11 Aug 1869 at the Parish Church, Monkstown. She was a widow
by 1891 and living with her brother in law Henry at Gwendwr Road, Fulham.
2 Martha Alice Chapman born 11 Aug 1851 and died on 27 Feb 1858 aged 6 years.
3 John Frederick Chapman baptised on 19 May 1850 at St Andrew’s Church, Westland Row.
4 Margaret (Madge) Chapman born 19 Dec 1852 at 82 Great Brunswick Street married Major
Henry Creagh formerly of the 27th Inniskillings son of late General Sir Michael Creagh
and grandson of late Right Hon Charles Osborne on 05 Apr 1880 at the Parish Church,
Stillorgan.
5 Henry William Fortescus Chapman eldest son born circa 1854 and baptised at St Andrews
Church, Westland Row, Dublin. He joined the militia and was appointed a captain in 1877.
He was unmarried and living in Aldershot in 1901 and died in Steyning, Sussex in 1909.
6 Frances Chapman born 2 Sep 1854 at 82 Great Brunswick Street.
7 Ellen (Nellie) Laura Chapman born 26 Aug 1856 at 81 Great Brunswick Street married John
Henry Wallace son of Michael Wallace of Limerick on 06 Apr 1875 at Christ Church, Leeson
Park, Dublin.
8 Florence Chapman born 25 Jun 1858 at 82 Great Brunswick Street married Edward Henry
Cassan Simpson, Col late 4th Bengal Cavalry son of late Major General E H Simpson on
27 Jun 1879 at the Parish Church, Stillorgan. Edward died on 26 Sep 1880 aged 47 years at
Ruby Hall, Kill of the Grange.
9 Gertrude Constance Chapman baptised 30 Mar 1860 at St Mark’s of 82 Great Brunswick Street
married Alexander Henry Chalmers eldest son of Lieut Colonel D J Chalmers late Bengal Staff
Corps at Holy Trinity Church, Anerley in July 1884.
10 Son Chapman stillborn 27 Jun 1862 at Temora, Booterstown.
11 Sophia Martha Chapman born 6 Aug 1867 at Woodley died 2 Mar 1868 at Woodley.
12 Madeline Blanche Chapman as younger daughter married Harry Edward Broderick on
23 Sep 1889 at Scarborough Parish Church, Harry was a MD of Knayton, Thirsk, Yorks and
the son of Major Edward George Broderick of Rye, Sussex. They divorced in 1897.
