Matthew Caulfield born circa 1854 married Lizzie Osborn circa 1884. Matthew was the
manager and chief propagator to Messrs Ramsay’s Nurseries and lived at the gatelodge on
Merrion Road from 1910. Matthew died 25 Dec 1925 at the Adelaide Hospital late of
Ballsbridge (gangrene) and was buried at Deansgrange. Elizabeth died 8 Aug 1943 at 4
Upper Pembroke Street, late of 63 Belmont Avenue, Donnybrook and was buried with her
husband.
1 Ada Martha Caulfield born 11 Nov 1884 at 13 Friar Street Cork was a florist in 1911.
She was living at the Nurseries, Ballsbridge and married Patrick Byrne on
16 Sep 1914 at Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount. Patrick was living at 5 Cabra
Road and was the son of Patrick Byrne, a cooper.
2 George Caulfield born 1886 at Middlesex, London was a seedsman in 1911. He was
a seedsman living at 20 Merrion Road and married Teresa O’Connor on 6 Aug 1919
at Wicklow RC Church. Teresa was living at Summerhill and was the daughter of
Joseph O’Connor, a railway porter. George was a peace commissioner and MD of
Caulfields Ltd the ‘Popular Garden Shop’ at 17 Dame Street. He was a keen
horticulturalist and exhibited at Chelsea and Southport shows as well as shows all
around Ireland. His specialty was carnations. The lived at Rockville from 1945 to
1962. Therese died 13 Jan 1952 at a private nursing home late of Rockville, Dundrum.
George died on 11 Feb 1962 at Loughlinstown Hospital.
1 Phyllis Caulfield married W M Shaw and they lived at “The Bungalow”, Rockville,
Dundrum.
3 Lizzie Caulfield circa 1888 at Guilford, Surrey was a florist in 1911.
4 Edward Caulfield born circa December 1891 was a gardener earning 18s a week at
Ramsay's Nurseries. Teddy was cycling back from Bray on the Stillorgan Road and was
hit by a motor car driven by Dr John Glenn (between the post office and Nutley Lane).
He suffered a fractured skull and died the following day 27 Jun 1910 at Baggot Street
Hospital. His brother George identified his body.
5 Minnie Caulfield born 1893 at Guilford, Surrey attended her brother's funeral in 1962.
6 Harry/Henry Caulfield circa 1895 at Guilford, Surrey. He was a seed merchant in
partnership with his brother George. He died unmarried at 63 Belmont Avenue on
12 Mar 1951 and left 10K in personal estate.
7 Kathleen (Kittie) Caulfield 24 Jun 1897, The Lodge, Ballsbridge Nurseries, Dublin
attended her brother's funeral in 1962.
