John Cameron born circa 1805 son of Charles and Margaret Cameron was a newspaper
proprietor. He married Ellen Galloway on 26.01.1841 at Edinburgh. Ellen was the daughter
of Alexander Galloway. John was the editor of the Dublin Penny Journal and co-owner of
the The General Advertiser. He was also the owner of the North British Daily Mail. Ellen died
aged 38 on 31.05.1846 at Erin Terrace, Rathmines. John lived at Ardlui from 1854 to 1871. He
died at 70 Fitzwilliam Place on 22.10.1873 and is buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Charles Alexander Cameron eldest son born 14.12.1841 in Dublin. He was educated at
St Andrew's and at various medical schools on the continent qualifying in 1862. He
deserted medicine for journalism in 1864 becoming editor of the North British Daily Mail.
He was living at Shaftesbury Terrace, Glasgow when he married Frances Caroline
Macaulay on 02.02.1869 at Booterstown Church. Frances was the youngest daughter of
James William Macaulay, MD of Dawson Court, Blackrock. Charles was a newspaper
proprietor and MP for Glasgow in 1874. He was created 1st Baronet Cameron of
Balclutha, Renfrew in 1893. Dame Frances Caroline Cameron died 25.01.1899.
1 Frances Eleanor Cameron born 1879 in Belgium married Commander Clifton Slater,
RN at St Peters Church, Kensington on 21.02.1900.
2 John Alexander Cameron born circa 1845 died 24.11.1853 aged 8 years.
3 Agnes only daughter born circa 1846 married George Frederick Duffey MB on 29.04.1871
at the Gresham Hotel, Dublin by special licence. George was the son of the late John
Duffey of Richview and Cyprus Grove and was surgeon assistant with the 24th Regiment.
Sir George died 13.10.1903 late of Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin aged 60 years.

Regiment died 13.10.1897 late of Port Royal Jamaica.

buried at Mount Jerome.
Charles Cameron secondly married Blanche Perman on 14.07.1900 at St Olave’s Church,
London. Blanche was the daughter of Arthur Perman and 20 years his junior. Charles died
02.10.1924 at Englefield Green, Egham.
6 Margaret Lilian Cameron born 30.10.1901 at Kensington living with her parents in 1921.
7 John Cameron born 26.11.1903 at Glenridge, Virginia Water baptised 20.01.1904 at
Christ Church, Virginia Water became the 2nd Bart on the death of his father. He was
a barrister and died in 1968.
