1 Abraham Brewster born April 1796 in County Wicklow the son of William Bagnell Brewster of
Ballinulta, Co Wicklow and his wife Anne Bates. He was educated at Kilkenny College and
graduated Trinity BA in 1817, and MA degree in 1847. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1819.
He married Mary Ann Gray in 1819, daughter of Robert Gray of Upton House, Co Carlow. He
took silk in 1835 and was appointed Castle Advisor in 1842. He was involved in the State trial
of Daniel O’Connell and The Yelverton marriage case. They moved from Harcourt Street to 26
Merrion Square in 1840 and their county seat was Castleview, Roebuck from 1835 to 1840 and
Roebuck Grove from 1856. He also had a hunting lodge at Fort Augustus in Scotland to which
he regularly travelled. Mary Ann died at Merrion Square on 24 Nov 1862. Abraham succeeded
Francis Blackburne as Lord Justice of Appeal in Ireland in July 1866, and Lord Chancellor of
Ireland in March 1867. As Lord Chancellor he sat in court for the last time on 17 Dec 1868,
when Benjamin Disraeli's government resigned and retired from public life. Abraham died at
his residence, 26 Merrion Square South on 26 Jul 1874, and was buried at Tullow, County
Carlow. He left 140K in personal estate.
1 William Bagenal Brewster only son born 1819 was educated at Oxford. He enlisted in
the Rifle Brigade and attained the rank of Colonel. He married Georgina Campbell
daughter of James Campbell, of Craigiedown, Ayrshire in 1858. William died 7 Jul 1864
at Warwick Square, London. They had no surviving issue.
2 Elizabeth Mary Brewster born circa 1820 married Henry Sneyd French on 22 June 1850 at
St Peter’s Church. Henry was a widower living at 11 Rutland Square and the son of Robert
Henry Brewster. He was High Sheriff of the county of the city of Dublin. Henry died of
scarlet fever in Monkstown on 20 Sep 1850. See James Birch of the World Newspaper
published a gross libel in 1852. Elizabeth died 10 Nov 1868 at 26 Merrion Square.
1 Robert Abraham Brewster French born circa 1851, heir to his grandfather's estate
assumed the name Brewster as per the terms of his grandfather' Will. He was a
lieutenant in the King’s Dragoon Guards. He married Geraldine Cooper on
28 Sep 1876 and was MP for Portarlington in 1883. He filed for divorced in 1889, a
decree Nisi was issued to Geraldine with costs. Robert died on 20 May 1901 at
London.
